  • Oh, in case you haven’t come across it before yet, MSE currently has it’s very own comedy Archers/Corrie saga serial, been going on for a while now, on the house board, thejonesfamily, very funny, a hoot, a laugh a minute, all about Mr Jones and the trials and tribulations of selling his house, and I’ve contributed three episodes and some comedy comments to it so far and Mr Jones himself thanked my second one, Mr and Mrs S, which suggests that he enjoyed my pieces and is cool about other writers chipping in. And Beamish also added a very funny episode. My three so far are :

Mr S looks for Mr J’s house and encounters the Clampetts in the Village

I came home from work totooday to find a "To let" board up outside my rented house, and I've just checked Rightmove, and there it is. They are only putting the rent up by £25pm - not much considering that it's been the same for the whole five and a half years I've been there.

It is all starting to feel real now. :)

ETA: Firefox froze while I was typing that and then I carried on from where I thought I'd left off. Didn't notice totooday until sss555s pointed it out! :rotfl:
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

DW says it means 'popular' - she did have a bit of trouble with your 'accent' tho!

I used to have an accent of the west indies. I think its why my parents opted to send me to UK...oh, hang on, IIRC it was the Mississippi accent that was the clincher. :)

edit: I picked up accents really, really quickly as a kid,a week in a place and I sounded like a local. :)

OMGosh. I can't tell you how many tonnes of wood we've moved today. Painstaking! Also had a fire where we burnt about a tonne of stuff we were too exhausted to bundle and cut up for kindling. Really missing that LR today...moving it all in wheel barrows is the end....

Lir, that sounds really hard work. Is DH up to that after whiplash? Please take it carefully, both of you.

I made a stupid mistake today. I was painting living room ceiling and was up a ladder barefoot. Walking back down the steps I caught sole of foot in hinge and have a huge v shaped gash there. Had to call my parents as DH not around at moment to come and sort me out. Very embarrassing.

Sounds like we all need to take care! I hope it ''heels'' quickly :D (not a lirism).

I think we'll feel it tomorrow...but we'll ease out the muscles with more. We've done more than half of the logs we want to do this weekend today......

the truley annoying thing is we've run out of kindling for the house....I'll go a scavenging tomorrow and get some to dry out by the heater, but its dreadful coming in after all that sap eeking yuck wood to wrestle and flirt with the woodburner to give us some heat ...the CH isn't up to anything when the air is damp.

Anyone else smelling snow ATM? Really odd...not quite snow...but couldn't put my finger on what weather it will be. Some sleet I guess.

Get a dehumidifier, they're cheap enough these days and you'd really get the benefit of it in an old house.

Been thinking about that, but the ones with a frost safe setting...which we'd need..are pricey. Will budget it for next winter I think.

This month NOTHING else can be bought. Its the first month in...a VERY long time when we're counting the days until pay day :o. I don' think it will be the last either!

This time of year you've not only got the January effect but also the new house effect - double whammy. It can only get better. But it is horrible moving into a new house, thinking of all the things you want to do and then not having all the money you need to do them.
