There was a bit of road in London where they were going to remove all the makings and signage and I think even any height differentiation between pavement and road theory being that drivers would be in doubt of their 'rights' and thus proceed with caution and pay attention - as you say if it was like this everywhere it might not have the same impact and there may still be uninsured 'I don't care what the rules are' drivers who pedestrians are no longer protected from.. I think it was based on a European countries experiment having been quite successful.

I'm quite skeptical of that... basically, what works on a single village might not work so well in an entire country. If you are used to road marking and etc, and you suddenly end up in a region without, you slow down and drive more cautiously.

Get rid of all the road marks through Britain... and, well, I am not sure the same thing would happen.

There's some kind of weird concept in social science where if you turn up with a set of clipboards and start measuring people, they suddenly get better exam results. But this doesn't last. Same kind of logic... if people go into unmarked roads they get 'danger' signals, but it soon wares off.

Wow TT - you do make us feel special ;)

Have been playing a game called cityville. Regret having started, to be honest, it is strangely addictive, and wastes a lot of time which I could be using to do something that I don't really want to be doing.

You can tell I am putting something off, because I am also on the forum.

I am in 40% - they asked me to do a tax return for about the first 3 years I went into 40% and then decided my affairs were so boring I could just be PAYE. (Kindly the first year they wrote to an old address, the first one I had ever paid tax at which not surprisingly did not reach me then wrote again to my current address [which they clearly had had all along from my employer] to tell me that I now owed 2x£100 fines for failing to complete the form on time, the one I had no idea I was supposed to complete but it turned out I only owed a few quid tax for minimal interest earnings)
    I think....

All that white stuff really annoys me. I really like pale grey, so my living room walls are pale grey. But are they called grey? No they are marble white. Upstairs my little bedroom is a pastel blue, but is it called that? No its cornflower white.

And what the heck is the different between barley white and what we'd call cream?

I needed to touch up a kitchen wall, without knowing what variety of cream the previous owners had used. 6 sample pots later, I decided it was magnolia. Touched up a bit of wall, then a bit more, then another bit on the opposite wall and realised that they had used two different cream shades on different walls! Never noticed, probably as the kitchen is T shaped and the two walls meet at an external corner. Now I notice every day and it bugs me.

Would love to see them and the photos - can we play guess what you are intending to get the builders to do before moving in?

As I had my bank statements to hand - and they're an indicator of income .... I just had a quick projection of 2010-2011 and ... it's not good, it's less.

    Might be ending up with:
    09-10: £11,000
    10-11: £9,000

But I've had some fabulous days!! Obviously not as many as I needed. And I completely forgot that in June 2010 my website was down for about 2 weeks ... and Xmas fortnight was peanuts. I seem to just be able to remember the good days I've had.

Also, temping in 09-10 brought in just shy of £3k, whereas 10-11 it's £200.

Oh dear. And I was feeling so flush this year! I'm an idiot, clearly.

    I'm i though!

Bit wary about sharing photos. Its quite identifable to share with non-nice people who may read. Floor plans though seem safe enough?

If you want to avoid personal details, load the document into microsoft paint and add a white rectangle over the personal stuff. Then save it under a different name, load it to flicky or photobucket and link to it from here.

No offence, Michaels, I like you really;)

But I decided to try to keep forums out of business hours... gotta have discipline* or you can end up spending hours in them.

    * at least in theory.
