In his early tv days I fancied him a bit.
I always say I don't really fancy celebs then I realise I do. Its always rather worrying people in its reflection on what it says about me as well....0 -

IIRC he's gay - which a lot of the ladies hate (using their words, a waste).
He's quite a private person, so kept it hush hush in the early days.
He used to do a gag in his act where he'd say "A lot of people ask if I use my powers to bed beautiful women. Well, of course I do!" (Followed by a trick he did with 3 models at a model agency)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Its allowed to fancy gay people...or straight people if you are gay. Its not allowed to kidnap them and attempt to convert.....
Yes I remember it ''was made public'' but I also think I remember an early interview with a ''girlfriend'' in some magazine or other. TBH...who cares (apart from himand who he's in bed with)..its fantasy fancying0 -

You are obviously still young.
I used to be the same, and it was quite distressing.:(
When I started as a teacher, my class used to used to cover for me. In those days, the office just wanted a slip of paper with the attendance on it, broken down into 'dinners, home and sandwiches,' then it was line up and everyone into Assembly by 9.10am. Registers were done in the afternoon, so they'd not need altering & be tidy. (Yeah I know, but this was before all the 'elf & safety, accountability stuff.)
My kids knew instantly that if I wasn't already in the classroom, I'd be late, so they'd do a quick count, hand in the numbers and get down to the hall. Lined up with the other classes, it wouldn't be noticeable that I wasn't there. That would give me until 9.30. I never asked them to do this, but kids were like that in those days, and it was a bit 'us & them' anyway, with so few young teachers in the school.
Eventually, I was caught, sneaking in the back way, probably after Assembly time.:o I agreed readily that it wasn't good enough, but I also knew I needed an extreme waking-up system. After thinking it through, I connected a very loud vacuum cleaner to a simple time switch and placed it on the other side of the room.:D
I was never late again. :A0 -
Over the last few years a number of studies have highlighted how grossly unhealthy the artificial unnecessary early morning start is for the majority of kids and so some intelligent schools are now applying some common sense to the fact of the matter and are now starting school at 10 am. Sadly, however, most of them are too stupid and ignorant to understand such important things as the vital importance of sleep and so the unnecessary unhealthy moronic idiotic fascist oppression continues.
A lot of my schooling was a waste as I was asleep and knackered for so much of it. Eventually I discovered the caffeine in coffee and tea which was just strong enough to get me into the stupid fascist hell hole in the morning but not enough to actually keep me from still sleeping while on the premises. So I was in a zombie state for most of the time, a bizarre experience which went on for years. Yes, it’s rather odd to be dreaming but have your eyes open and therefore be able to observe but not understand a few odd bits and pieces of the stuff that the teachers were saying.0 -

Great story davesnave!:D
I have worked with volunteers for a lot of my working life. Like your students, the volunteers used to cover for me when management would call (luckily, they weren't based in the same building...) so they'd answer the phone saying "he's here, I'm sure 've seen him, very busy...." then put the phone down & under their breathe pray I was due in & would get there soon & safely.:D
I had a fantastic relationship with the volunteers. All of them knew I'd fight tooth & nail for them. I looke after them, & they more than reciprocated.
Wonderful people to work with. I miss them. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Light lab tests used to suggest we had a 36 hour day ''naturally''didn't they?Nowt natural about that! Don't similar studies suggest teens have a different body clock entirely?
DH used to be nocturnal. getting up between 11-2 and going to bed just before I wanted to get up! TBH most of the people I know who are like that are pretty unhealthy...not necessarily because of that I suppose though...but the rest of their lifestyles too. My siblings in law live and look like vampires.
I have very little sympathy for myself over this. I was very insomniac before being ill,and then found it hard to wake for even an hour a day. Its up to me to develop a routine and then have the discipline to stick to it I think.0 -

Couldn't you just have gone to bed a bit earlier?0 -
lostinrates : Don't similar studies suggest teens have a different body clock entirely?
Yes, that’s right, and human sleep patterns and needs vary over different ages and vary from person to person. And, yes, most teens need to sleep in the mornings and are biologically programmed to do so and so to continually interrupt the natural cycles causes a lot of illness and unhappiness and stress. The various studies have identified a number of natural patterns and in particular what are the times that people are receptive to learning and the times that they are not. Studies repeatedly show that for most teenagers mornings are not a time for study, not at all. Some people are morning people but the majority are not. Millions of years of evolution has created this and it's not something that can just be overturned without causing a lot of damage.
JanCee : “Couldn't you just have gone to bed a bit earlier?”
No. I have a natural tendency, as do a lot of people, to be nocturnal and so, no, I can’t sleep at earlier times. Lying in bed fully awake and tossing and turning is mostly not restful at all, on the contrary, it’s mostly stressful and normally drives me mad with frustration and the only solution is to get up and wait till I’m tired.
No, I had a terrible time as a kid and teenager due to this issue. No one understood despite me explaining it repeatedly, my health was severely affected, my psychology was severely affected and the bulk of my schooling was wasted, largely because of this. And it has left me with a lifelong hatred of stupid ignorant oppressive fascist organisations such as schools that cause so much damage and unhappiness to so many people.
Luckily in my adult life I’ve mostly been able to get the sleep I need when I need it so that tragedy is mostly just a distant memory which I rarely think about. However Davenave’s mention of his similar syndrome has brought it all back to me.
Anyway, the world is full of stupidity and ignorance and most of it can’t be corrected but at least a bit of understanding about this issue is finally showing some signs of coming through so maybe in the future a few less people will have to suffer as badly as I did.0
