A lie on a parking ticket
Sandell
I received a parking ticket today as i was late returning to my car (my crying baby needed to be fed) which i know i was, although they say 10 mins late and i say 9. Apparently they allow a 10 min amnesty, But the ticket also says that i wasn't present when the ticket was written which is a lie, as i was there. Does anyone know if this lie makes the ticket invalid? Thanks.

is it a council one or private?Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
It is a private parking ticket.
Thanks.0 -
In either case, you're lucky to get any time amnesty at all as you know when the ticket is due to expire, so should make all allowances to return in time. Traditionally, the only "grace periods" given are when no ticket is displayed as it is assumed you are buying one.
Anyway, if it's issued by some tinpot "here today, gone tomorrow" private security company, ignore it if you feel you have complied mostly or reasonably with any contract.0 -
If its a private parking ticket ignore it completly as they cant enfore any action.0

It is a private parking ticket.
Thanks.
It's not a real fine then, it's a scam ticket like all those issued by private companies; they cannot legally fine anyone! Ignore it and the threatograms that will follow. Here's some light reading for you to see we are correct, here's the current advice on this board:

Start reading at the top, with the 'stickies', just ignore the ParkRight one as that's irrelevant.
The two top threads by Crabman will give you all the info and links you need to know that you MUST ignore this scam. Reading more threads below it will show you how common the scam is and that everyone is ignoring the debt collector letters and has looked at the Watchdog link. See the letters for yourself and learn from the Watchdog legal adviser, it's all there on that page alone, tons of links and info as to why you must ignore the whole thing.
Happy reading. You'll see what this is all about once you've read up on it. Only EVER take seriously a ticket from the Police or the Council, it's a simple rule. Spread the word.
HTHPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Ok, thank you. I am never normally late to return to my car and have never had a parking ticket before, but when a crying baby needs feeding what can you do!? I was going to contact them and see if they would pass on it or at least reduce the amount, as £80 seems extortionate to me, i'm told council parking tickets aren't that much and with them if you pay within a certain time you get a reduced rate. Am nervous about just leaving it as if i don't pay within 7 days it goes up to £120!0

Now you can see why the BPA are so happy to back the ploy of councils raising their fines,Ok, thank you. they will match the PPC's invoice amounts and make them look legit.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

It's not a parking ticket, it's an unenforceable invoice.
They will not reduce the amount or cancel it if you contact them - there is no appeals process. They are just a private company who won't turn down profit.
The charge cannot go up - it's just a tactic to try and scare you into paying quickly. If you buy a pint of milk and are struggling to find the change in your pocket at the till, can the shopkeeper say you're taking too long and double the price??0 -

As others have said, ignore it. Also ignore any subsequent demands from debt collectors, no matter how threatening they are. Do not enter into any correspondence with them whatsoever.0
