I got lots of tips on my "Something other than Turkey for Christmas" topic and am hoping for the same response on this one! Who has a great recipe for traditional stuffing for Turkey. I could lift one from the net but I want tried and tested ones. Thanks in advanceNo Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30

Hi Daisyburps,
There's an earlier thread with lots of tried and tested recipes that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.

Hello,
I've just found out that I'm going to be cooking Christmas dinner for my boyfriend and I'd like to do some stuffing for him, but I'm not really sure what I need to do. I know his mum used sausage meat and onion, but I'm allergic to onion (as well as garlic and mushrooms) and the only recipes I have, have onion in. Can anyone give me some ideas what I can do?
Thanks!Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
Hi toonie,
If you're allergic to onion then just leave it out or you could replace it with celery. Nuts or chestnuts are good additions as well.
There's an earlier thread with stuffing recipes that should give you more ideas so I'll add your thread to it to keep the replies together.

Leave the onion out!
Try a combination of sausagemeat, smoked bacon, breadcrumbs, dried apricots, sage and celery -don't forget the salt and pepper.
Other likely contenders for your stuffing are; chestnuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, prunes, apple, thyme, parsley, leek (if you're not allergic), lemon and orange zest, spices like mace, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, ginger, pancetta, dried cranberries....0 -
Thanks for your suggestions, I like the sound of the one with apricots (which funnily enough I've just been out and got).
I've never cooked a Christmas dinner before and its the first time for BF without his parents here (they moved abroad and aren't back for Christmas this year) so want to make it special for him and I know he loves stuffing!Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
I make two every year - a new one that looks good, and one that we've had before and loved, just in case the first one's a disaster ;-) - but I think the best we've ever had has to be the one at http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/000036moms_turkey_stuffing.php0

We we ended up doing three lots of stuffing-one was sausagemeat with apricots and mixed herbs made into balls (which was lovely). Then we found a pack of paxo stuffing, which we used half of to make more stuffing balls. Then we used the rest of the sausagemeat, herbs, apricots and leftover stuffing mix and put it into a dish to cook.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650

I make mine with
1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
half cup flaked almonds
about 6 dried apricots
chopped fresh parsley, enough so you can see it in there
half an onion
500grms sausagemeat
1 egg to bind
Just mix altogether put in dish dot the top with butter and put in oven about 160c - 170c about 40mins or more
My son said it was the best he ever tasted.0 -
Sorry if this has been asked before.
I have a pack of Paxo sage & onion stuffing mix that is lurking about the back of the cupboard.
I am not a huge fan of it, always buy a pack as back up in case there are any disasters on Christmas day
Any suggestions how to use it up would be gratefully received:grouphug:0
