  • For shopping/food I have a magnetic notepad which I stick up in the kitchen, use this to jot down things I need to get the next time I go shopping.

Also have a wipe clean monthly calendar on the wall, to keep track of whats going on.

All my other household stuff I need to keep track of is kept in my household manual, which is a ringbinder full of info - diary, recipes, phone numbers & addresses etc was given the idea from a thread on here call household manuals.

    Organise? Whassat?

Seriously though, for day to day life I wouldn't be without my diary - random web addresses, shopping lists, meetings, it all goes in there.

Around the house its obvious that we don't organise. One day I'll get round to it....

I'm afraid the limit of my OS organisation is a shopping list on the back of an old envelope, stuck to the fridge door with a fridge magnet. I add to it when I realise I need something, then take it with me when I go shopping.

However I do live on my own, so it doesn't take a lot of organisation.

If my previous patterns of turning into my mother are anything to go by, I know that if I had a husband and/or family to provide for, the OS budgets, meal plans and timetables would all have their own spreadsheets :D

Ooh, Icecubequeen, can I ask where you got a wipeclean monthly calendar - this sounds like a fantastic idea (or if you describe it I could attempt to recreate it with blackboard paint and silver pens :))

I'm not nearly OS enough, but what I find really helps me is I have created a grocery list of everything that I buy. It is four columns with everything in the order that I go around the supermarket. I print off a few and put them on the fridge. I just go through and highlight what I need as I run out during the week, then when I've done my weekly menu I can highlight what is needed for that, too. It makes things so much easier.

This is my spreadsheet for meal planning - gets shifted around pretty much daily but I fill it in in advance with things I want, things I have in the freezer and quick meals when I've put down we're going out etc.

I have small reporter's notebook in which I write my shopping list. I rewrite this list constantly throughout the week. I'm always changing my mind about what we're going to eat-depends very much on what cookery books I've been reading. I put meal plans in there too, but never stick to them.

I also have a ring binder. At the front of this is my master storecupboard/fridge/freezer list-what I like to have in stock. I actually change this list quite frequently too. At the moment I'm going through a semi-wartime rationing phase(I'm a bit odd like that:o ) so it is very simple and traditional and doesn't contain anything 'too modern' like yogurt or coconut milk.

After that list I have my freezer inventory. This lists what's in the freezer with a / for each item. I then cross it as it is used up -does that make sense?
    eg mince (1lb bags) / / /
    sausages (1lb bags) / / / / /

    Next I have dividers for various things;

menu plans -a collection of plans from the internet, or ones I have made,

prices and recipe costs -this is where my price book pages live plus the cost to make various baked items (I bake for my kids' school so need to keep track of expenses)

wartime food -this is where my collection of magazine and internet articles on rationing live, plus my menu plan and storecupboard list from when I lived on rations for a fortnight last year.

Lastly, there's a section with family info -school uniform lists, stuff I'd like to buy for the house, ideas for birthday presents and notes about what went well last Christmas -good presents, bad presents, food amounts, stuff that didn't get eaten etc.

I have another binder with recipes I use regularly or that I have got from the internet and have yet to try.

    skint catt- ~WOW!

I doff my OS cap to you!

I have a diary that has a whole page for each day. That gives me plenty of room for endless to do lists, reminders etc. I write on the bottom of each page the meal for that day and that way I can make a note at the top of the page, or the previous day's page to remind myself to get relevant stuff out of freezer.
    weaving through the chaos...

    Hiya,

I got it from Staples, complete with pen and reusable date stickers, think it was about £3.99.

    Hope that helps.
