I have to admit, if I didn't have a husband who thinks its fine to sit on the sofa all day and leave it all for me to do , I wouldn't have come up with the timetable. Wish we didn't need it, but hey.

    Hi all

Was just reading the thread about pricebooks, and it got me thinking... I have a little notebook which I carry round with me to jot down shopping lists, my weekly spends, things to do...

I know people have different ways of organising their OS life; for example, I just read about someone (sorry can't remember who!) suggesting a wipe clean board in the kitchen for meal planning, then as well obviously the pricebooks, spreadsheets for finances and computery things for meal planners...

I was wondering, for all of you out there, how do you organise being OS? What do you find works for you, is there anything that hasn't worked, or is there anything you intend to try?

I have a wipe clean board in the kitchen for building my 'basics' shopping list as and when something runs out or is running low.

I have far too many spreadsheets - food 'in stock' in the flat, recipes, template daily meal plans (try to balance price/nutrition) etc

And I usually have a notebook for scribbling notes in, or at worst stick a reminder in my mobile :)

I get a bit OCD about a lot of things, not just moneysaving...

Oooh I *love* the idea of spreadsheets but am not too technically minded! I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to teach myself though!

I do love my notebook, it helps organise me when everything around me is running 100 miles an hour!

I carry my notebook with me everywhere then if I have to wait or get kept waiting for something , then at least I can do something useful.

I would like to try and 'spreadsheet' my meals as far as cost is require, so that I know which things are the cheapest and so that I have a benchmark when comparing other things, can't think what columns etc I need to put in and how to organise it so it's easy to sort.

Trusty old notebook with 400 leaves in it - contains list after list and I wouldn't be without it.

My "new" notebook that I started in jan is a spiral bound Pukkapad A5 size, but the front has nearly dropped off! Not sure how to fix it up really, got lots of empty pages still!

I have a habit of going overboard with the detail, then giving up on a spreadsheet after a short while as maintaining it becomes a nightmare, so start again trying to 'keep it simple stupid' but that sheet then grows and becomes a monstrosity itself, repeat ad infinitum...

As an example, to try and plan for April I created two seperate workbooks comprising of 15 worksheets in total between them that did all kind of magic trickery. Then I gave up on the mealplanning after a week cos I felt too restricted lol :rotfl: If I could stick to the mealplan it'd be great, it works out the cost of ingredients, cost of meals, any wastage or leftovers etc, but I don't think it's for me...

Better to stick to pen and paper for food stuff I think, so much simpler. Write down what is about to run out on the wipe clean board, transfer to notebook before trip to the shops, and refill cupboard :) Will see how that goes :o Of course I'll keep an electronic record of any successful recipes, I just need to stop with all the cost analysis etc, too geeky lol! I've gone so far as working out daily allowances of protein/fats/carbs etc in the past, it's too much work when you have to find all the info for every ingredient you use lol, life's too short!

Nobody will EVER tear my precious 'accounts' spreadsheets away from me though!
