So why bother reading a thread which is obviously about football and then go on to comment about it?

Why bother reading a thread and NOT commenting on the subject matter of the thread.I think you are loitering with intent.
Touchy about football?Anyway, this thread will run and run.Not quite sure how it's moneysaving though.
    Who are ya?
  • Touchy about football?

    Not in the least.
It's just that if I saw a thread about netball or hockey, I wouldn't bother reading or commenting on it as those 2 sports don't interest me in the least.
All I asked was why someone who isn't interested football would bother reading a thread about a footballer.

Of course they're not. The number of drunken aggressive yobs on the streets following England matches at the last World Cup was a pretty depressing sight though.

That may have been the case in local pubs and bars, but not a single English supporter was arrested in South Africa. In fact, the English supporters were impeccably behaved.

Anybody who thinks that England has the world's biggest hooligan problem needs to stop living in the 1980s. One of the nations that we are up against in today's vote has had much greater problems with hooliganism than we do whilst another has consistently been at the centre of racism complaints.

Let's not jump to a "a guilty by association and reputation" scenario here. After all, I doubt that Greater Manchester Police will agree with the "friendly and jovial" reputation that is attached to Scottish football supporters.

The fervour for netball and hockey can hardly be compared with the fervour for the beautiful game, can it?
I am interested in many subjects, and I don't have to like them to comment,I hardly think this is going to outrage public decency.
    Permission to post,Sir Alex.

I do remember the disappointing documentary about Polish football hooligans, the worst one they could find lived at home with his mum, admittedly in a rather Bronx-esque neighboorhood.

That's good to hear. If the tournament ends up being held in England, let's hope that happens again.

  • Personally I think that the term "The beautiful game" should no longer be used in relation to football.

Beautiful once maybe, but nowadays with the number of highly paid sportsmen who are willing to cheat by dropping to the ground (often after performing a spectacular swan dive) after the lightest of touches, then rolling about in supposed agony until they realise the referee is ignoring them, has spoilt many matches.

Add to this the lack of respect shown to the match officials (often by both players and managers), and football has lost an awful lot of what it once was.

You think it should be applied to hockey?!Personally I am not interested in that sport.
  • You think it should be applied to hockey?!

No. I'm not interested in hockey either.
I just don't think it is still an appropriate phrase for professional football. (Purely my opinion of course)

If you are not interested in hockey, why bother to mention it?
  • If you are not interested in hockey, why bother to mention it?

Because I mentioned hockey in post #23 in response to a comment made by yourself in post #22.
I simply stated that if I saw a thread on hockey I wouldn't bother reading it as the subject matter would have no interest for me.
Whether it was hockey, knitting, skiing or any one of probably dozens of things that I was not interested in, I simply wouldn't read it.
Why read and post on something that is of little or no interest?
