Leaving TalkTalk - Difficult?

I've been a Tiscali Customer for quite a few years, but ever since they got took over by TalkTalk, I've had problems which are really difficult for them to fix and are really unhelpful when reporting faults. I've also had a letter from them saying that I've been moved over onto their 'new and improved' billing system, which is funny as I'm unable to access my Tiscali Email to check. I'm also experiancing problems right now with my connection dropping (which oddly enough I had a few weeks ago)!!!:mad::mad:

Anyway, I'm at the stage where I've had enough and I'm considering going, but is it difficult to move away from TalkTalk? I'm expecting problems due to how rubbish they are at fixing problems. Also who is a good provider to move to? I would love to have Virgin Broadband but they aren't doing new installations (which is annoying as I'm fairly sure a cable runs past my house but being a new build they won't do it).

Cheers

  • I've also received this email this evening, my £9.99 a month service is increasing to £20.42 per month from February, I've been thinking of leaving them for a while this will push me to move now, I did contact them recently to request my MAC CODE, and the code was emailed to me very quickly,..... Right now the hunt is on, Plusnet is an option. we'll see.
Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm WELSH. .

I've just switched to Plusnet from Tiscali, very easy.
Once Tiscali had realized that I'd made my mind up and stopped trying to dissuade me from leaving, the process has been almost trivially easy.

Shame their normal customer service isn't like that, I might have stayed.

[BTW, Plusnet is almost twice the speed of Tiscali down the same phone line]
  • I, too, have had about enough of TalkTalk. Their latest price increase (is this the third one within a year?) really is the final straw.

My only concern over changing is what's going to happen to my old @lineone.net e-mail address? Having to notify all and sundry of a change to an address I've been using for years would be a real pain.

Can anybody offer any insights on this? Thanks.

    Yes you'll lose it eventually.
Just sign up to Gmail (takes 10 mins) and then you'll have an ISP -independent address.
A group email to your address book contacts takes about 2 mins.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

you won't be disappointed - they are fantastic!

moved from talktalk after a complete nightmare, not even getting set up properly etc and ended up in the hands of the ombudsman but I really can't fault plusnet for the speed and service.

could you send a sort of round robin email, ie. informing several contacts from your address book at a time?

My old lineone address not used for ten years still works via web mail . Likewise old extinct Tiscali Email address both kept for signing up forums etc in case of spam and only used via web mail . Line one them multiple ISPs then Tiscali left for F2S taken over by Pipex taken over by Tiscali taken over by Talk Talk . Must say i am on the same service level as pre Tiscali /Talk Talk . I'm also experiancing problems right now with my connection dropping (which oddly enough I had a few weeks ago)!!! May have nothing to do with your ISP but be internal home problems . jje

My old Tiscali and ye olde UkGateway addresses both still work for incoming mail (Via pop.tiscali.co.uk), but I can no longer send Email using their smtp server.
Which suits me just fine!, don't know how long it'll last.
  • Thanks everybody. The group e-mail is not the problem. I was thinking more of all the shopping / travel /moneysaving (!) websites I am signed up with in one way or another with my existing e-mail address.
Guess I'll have to determine whether I hate TalkTalk sufficiently by now to bite the bullet.
Then again, if incoming e-mail still works via webmail, this should be less of an issue.
