Full of the word "estimate" though.
Raskazz actually quoted an industry report that was based on measured figures. It's in a previous posting on here.0 -

The important thing to remember is that when it's time to renew your insurance the insurance company you are with often appoint someone to hold a gun to your head.0

I still dont see why i have had my risk upgraded to the extremes of 1/7th the total cost of the vehicle. This is stupid!
I also got across the point to elephant when they stated that i had to state on any new car insurance provider that i have been involved in an 'accident' well no i dont and i would not be lying not conveying that to a new provider. The word accident implies that no one is at fault. Thats why in the Police they have changed the term from RTA - road traffic accident to RTC - Road traffic collision.
Elephant stated that they have an entry on my file stating that i informed them of the 'collision' no fault or claim and that affected my rating. I asked them for a pro-rata quote (after explaining that to the operator) he said that the company would not do that, so i stated that i would submit a FOI request for ALL of the data that they hold on me and they would have too do so! Sheepishly, he then said he would talk to his manager to see if they could add a 'discount' on the policy!
It is very clear that i am being singled out for paying over the odds for car insurance and am thinking if i have grounds to make a complaint to the ombudsman as they have not demonstrated how i am a greater risk than that of a minicab driver with the same background who pays less premiums with several claims over the past 3 years.
My search continues, best price so far girlies insurance part of the same admiral group as elephant for £767! I have till the 14th to renew my policy.
Male 37 -No claims - licence for 15+ years, low risk jobs (engineer and Police Officer), SDP only, park in the street, high risk area for car crime. No changes from previous year
Female 31-Low risk job, licence for 9 years, no claims.
Insurance is a farce!0 -
First thing would be to ask your girlfriend to insure it in her name, with you as a named driver. This will necessitate tranferring your no claims bonus to her because you need NCB per car as opposed to per person. So she can't insure two vehicles in her name just using her no claims bonus alone. That should cut your insurance renewal quote by about a third. A bit insulting really, as I believe (no scientific, impartial evidence for this claim, just my opinion) that the main reason women drivers have fewer accidents than male drivers is simply because they don't drive very often.
Second, try someone like Esure. They're quite good, pay out properly, and, if you have an accident which is not your fault, won't try to can you no claims bonus.0 -
What's stupid is that you imagine the value of the vehicle and the premium you pay must be connected.caerleon9176 wrote: »I still dont see why i have had my risk upgraded to the extremes of 1/7th the total cost of the vehicle. This is stupid!
I can't even begin dissecting the rest of this.caerleon9176 wrote: »I also got across the point to elephant when they stated that i had to state on any new car insurance provider that i have been involved in an 'accident' well no i dont and i would not be lying not conveying that to a new provider. Ignore every single word of the following post...First thing would be to ask your girlfriend to insure it in her name, with you as a named driver. I still dont see why i have had my risk upgraded to the extremes of 1/7th the total cost of the vehicle. This is stupid!
Why?
Three identical accidents. One person in a £500 car, another in a £5000 and another in a £50,000 car. They all hit cars costing £50,000 and injure the occupants inside which results in £1,000,000. Do you think that the cost of car is the major concern in this case?
That is being pedantic and almost pathetic.I also got across the point to elephant when they stated that i had to state on any new car insurance provider that i have been involved in an 'accident' well no i don't and i would not be lying not conveying that to a new provider. The word accident implies that no one is at fault. No they don't. Freedom of information requests do not apply to companies. It is very clear that i am being singled out for paying over the odds for car insurance and am thinking if i have grounds to make a complaint to the ombudsman as they have not demonstrated how i am a greater risk than that of a minicab driver with the same background who pays less premiums with several claims over the past 3 years.
FOS will not look at your complaint as they do not investigate issues of a commercial nature (i.e. pricing). To think you are being personally persecuted is paranoid and incorrect.Male 37 -No claims - licence for 15+ years, low risk jobs (engineer and Police Officer), SDP only, park in the street, high risk area for car crime. No changes from previous year
high risk area and part in street. Two obvious reasons why your premiums have gone up. Plus, a no fault claim being a third.Second, try someone like Esure. They're quite good, pay out properly, and, if you have an accident which is not your fault, won't try to can you no claims bonus.
Current esure pricing is targetting low risk cases only. Any hint of higher risk and the premiums shoot up.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I can confirm that this is correct. At least that's what a fireman told me last week when he came to fix a new smoke alarm.
Not that it necessarily makes much difference. Insurance contracts are contracts of 'utmost good faith' and you are legally obliged to tell your insurer anything that might be relevant. As far as motor insurance is concerned I imagine that would include your involvement in any road traffic collisions. At least you are supposed to. In OPs case the current insurer has already been informed, hence it would be pointless and dangerous not to inform any potential new insurer.0 -
