I am in the same boat. I sent my application off late at the end of July because I was not sure if I was re taking my second year or going onto third. After ringing up and hearing it is still being processed, I rang up again last week to be told that they were waiting for me to respond to a letter that was requesting proof from my uni that I was re taking year 2.
Apparatnly they had sent the letter months ago, but mysterisly turned up at my home in leeds a couple of days later. I cannot understand why it took so long for them to contact me or why they couldn't ring or email me. Useless they are! I don't know how long it will be until I have some money!

despite calling the students loan company on a daily basis, i'm still without any loan. i'm well into my third overdraft too and really worried about what i'm going to do for food and rent. student welfare won't do anything until i've been assessed, so can't get emergency loan or hardship fund. tight asses wouldn't even put my letter in their post.

not really sure what i'm supposed to do? other than open a 4th student account.

Go and get assessed! It will probably take about 30 mins and you can get cash there and then to tide you by followed by a prompt emergency payout from the Hardship fund... If you have no luck with them in getting a quick appointment, aim higher and write to them again, cc-ing in your head of dept and dean...

Guys - take no !!!!!! from your LEAs. I applied for my loan late at the end of June (I hate tempting fate and applying before I have my end of year exam results!), and got my assessment back in 3 weeks, and payment on day 5 of term, following re-enrolement...

I believe they are tryin a new method this year of how they deal with our applications. A lot of other lads on the rugby team have had problems with their application, most sent before the deadline

just fyi, when i was an undergrad the university did not allow students to have a job during term time - you could be asked to leave for doing so. whether or not that is sensible/stupid doesn't matter - your black and white view of students is offensive.
Working during term-time is strongly discouraged at my University. Many of the lecturers feel it impairs academic performance, with students failing to do the required readings, failing to do preperation work, and turning up late for (and often bunking off) lectures/seminars due to work commitments.

I can work up to 15 hours a week, but I just can't find a job! I have walked round town, given out countless CVs, applied for everything (i'm not fussy, would do 'menial' jobs!) but i'm in a town with two unis and hundreds of students who are searching. As i'm a mature student, my experience is all in IT so I don't have any retail/bar experience which might help me out. I asked about a job on campus, and one bar got 400 applications for one role!
  • I was in the same position and got my MP involved in desperation at incompetence of student loans who lost no less than 9 copies of my appplication, despite some being physically handed in to their Glasgow HQ.At last a telephone number, 0141 306 2000,managed to resolve my difficulties.

Go to your SU advice centre and they may be able to help chase it up and will know of any other funding you can apply for. Most unis will not assess for access fund or emergency loan until you have some proof that you will be getting your funding, but your SU advice centre will know more.
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."
  • having been at oxbridge, no-one i know had a term time job - it wasn't worth the risk of being asked to leave. also with the timetabled lectures/practicals i had 6 days a week, it also would have been difficult to pass the course and work 15 hours part time.

it's great that you managed to work through uni and not have finanical problems, but that is not an excuse to pick arguements with other people. you could have asked whether there was any way teaboy could have found a part time job, but instead you made your comment aggressive. there's no need. also, he was expecting to get a loan and it hasn't arrived, which is not the same as running out of money and asking for more.

You do realise that Oxbridge isn't actually a university? It is basically a term used for the universities of Cambridge and Oxford. No-one has ever been at 'oxbridge' because you attend either of the two rival Universities. I had to bring that up, I'm not trying to get at anyone, I'm just a Cambridge boy and thought it needed to be highlighted!

forgot about this post. just so u know i did eventually get my loan after phone call after phone call and lots of trips to welfare. i couldn't apply for ALF until my loan had been paid, as soon as it came through i did apply and got a load of free money!
    so happy ending.
What's it going to be, eh?
