despite calling the students loan company on a daily basis, i'm still without any loan. i'm well into my third overdraft too and really worried about what i'm going to do for food and rent. student welfare won't do anything until i've been assessed, so can't get emergency loan or hardship fund. tight asses wouldn't even put my letter in their post.
not really sure what i'm supposed to do? other than open a 4th student account.

What's it going to be, eh?

I take it you applied to the SLC late.
When did you apply for your last student account, and which banks are you with? A 4th could be an option if you haven't been credit checked by the others recently. Or if you know you will get your loan in soon apply for a credit card with one of your existing banks perhaps, but you'll have to make sure you can pay this off within a month to prevent getting charged interest on any unpaid balance.0 -
i sent my first applicaiton several months ago. that went missing! sent another about over 2 months ago.
credit card is an option but who knows how long the slc will take. What's it going to be, eh?0 -

I'd advise against a credit card. You could try ask your University about hardship funds etc.0

ring up your 'rents and start crying!0

You could give Citizens Advice a try.
Put more pressure on your universities welfare people.
Avoid a credit card at all cost.
Do you have some things worth selling? I made about £100 selling old RC car parts and PS2 games - on eBay - in the last week alone!0 -
Talk to your local education authority i.e. the people you sent the form to they will be able to confirm the status of any application and if any additional info required. The student finance direct line is useless they told me my application was fine when it was missing documents.0

If you're in uni accomodation, speak to them and ask for deferred rent until you get your student loan.
As for food and general living, you could try scrounging off friends for a while?
Part time job?0 -
Go and get a part-time job. Even 1 night a week at Mc Donalds would give you enough money for food.

Student welfare have been very good to my daughter, she has had two major crisis already in the first month. I would keep going back to them and student union.
Also talk to your LEA. I got a really nasty reply on the first time I rang but afterwards thye rang me and everything got sorted and went through smoothly only about 3 weeks late. (My daughter only applied through clearing)
Also talk to your bank so at least they know the situation. Nat west seem very willing to listen.
Might be an idea to write a letter to anyone you owe money to eg rent to explain the situation.
Getting a part time job is essential, even if it means having to do bar work or McDonalds. Careers people will sort your CV out and have a list of jobs on offer and then just go around all the shops, bars, cafes and pubs and just keep asking. Mind you even if you started a job today it could be two to four weeks before you get paid but at least it will look good when you talk to the bank.
Also have you got anything worth selling. If you know anyone who does car boots and you can persuade them to sell some bits for you then at least you will have a bit of cash for food.
Ebay is also a possibility but it does take a bit of time. It takes 5 days for money to transfer between paypal and your bank (or for a cheque to clear) and paypal charge for transfers below £100.
The other thing you can do is contack Citizens Advice.
The other problem is all this takes time and gets in the way of studying
