  • I think paypal only charge for transfers under £50 and then it's only something small like 25 p - but it does take about a week for the money to get into your bank.

I'm in the same boat with my bursary but don't have a student account or OD because of my managed loan.

just fyi, when i was an undergrad the university did not allow students to have a job during term time - you could be asked to leave for doing so. whether or not that is sensible/stupid doesn't matter - your black and white view of students is offensive.

I was under the impression you were only allowed one student account/overdraft at a time? Is this not the case?

Only if you apply for an account where having other student accounts is prohibited, some banks e.g. have a one student account only clause but many others do not (Smile, Co-Op, Barclays and most others).

at my uni, we were not supposed to work more than 15 hours per week during term time. however, most of my professors, my academic advisor and the good people of student services knew that i was working much more than that to pay the fees, etc. i've never heard of anyone getting into trouble for working too much, as long as it didn't effect one's class attendance. everyone i know who went to oxbridge also worked at least part time.

having been at oxbridge, no-one i know had a term time job - it wasn't worth the risk of being asked to leave. also with the timetabled lectures/practicals i had 6 days a week, it also would have been difficult to pass the course and work 15 hours part time.

it's great that you managed to work through uni and not have finanical problems, but that is not an excuse to pick arguements with other people. you could have asked whether there was any way teaboy could have found a part time job, but instead you made your comment aggressive. there's no need. also, he was expecting to get a loan and it hasn't arrived, which is not the same as running out of money and asking for more.
