All the more reason to have a bar on your handset for calling abroad/premium rate if you don't call those types of numbers. Reduces your exposure.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

Thats true but read these forums over a month or two and its normal for posts to say i did not know . When 99% of the time its no more than common sense and or the poster is trying to worm their way out of paying a legitimate bill . Suppose thats why some replies can be a bit told you so . Looks like your original post was quite clear asking for help in reducing your debt or asking the network for a reduction . But the last few lines tell a totally different story . Got the basic bargaining chips: no duty of care regarding fraud detection, going way over usual usage/the account cap. I could add a genuine threat to complain to Otelo (the ombudsman) Thats trying to put your unfortunate debt in someone else's pocket so posters are less than sympathetic . jje0

a) when do you ever realise the minute you've lost your handset?
b) we're not all 100% aware of our liability and are moneysaving nits.
Forgive me but some of the replies have been critical and unhelpful and disregarding human fallibility.
Forgive me but some of the replies have been critical and unhelpful and disregarding human fallibility. What seems "OMG SO OBVIOUS" to you is not to the average punter.
Maybe not, but from your posts, you seem to have all the knowledge and information you require to know the legal position and what the unfortunate young person can do to try to reduce the damage. (One thing, though, if they have a repayment plan, even agreed, that may still reflect in their credit record - check it out)
I agree with JJ Egan' sentiments. You can search this forum for other comments if you think replies to date are less than helpful, but at the end of the day, your friend signed up to these t&c and, until the law changes, her liability is 100% clear and the only people that can help are the network. As you already know that, there is little else that MSE members can do to help.0 -

I'm sure anyone can see that simply wading in speaking legalese with a sense of entitlement will get you no where Thats very true but you do not need to speak legalise or not it boils down to the fact that their is no entitlement to a reduction in the bill . Their is only hope that the network look kindly on your predicament and reduce the bill . Thats the route to go send a letter to head office and explain the circumstances . If you wanted to go down the duty of care route then it requires legal expertise as proof would be required that the network had a duty of care within that time frame . jje0

This is the agreement BT has with the other Networks (fix-line/mobile) to protect BT from loss due to this type of fraud.
ANNEX E
ARTIFICIAL INFLATION OF TRAFFIC

As far as I know all the UK Networks have monitoring equipment to detect fraudulent call patterns. and a 'claw back' clause to reclaim the revenue from along the revenue chain.
That in itself begs a serious question.
Can you post the numbers and did somebody actually say they were 'premium international numbers'.
I am not aware of any 'Reseller' Pakistan premium rate numbers.0
