Lush - you are indeed great but....

Options
I love Lush stuff. I love sending Lush pressies to friends and family. I am a good 50 miles away from my nearest Lush so when I am near one I stock up, I know what I am buying, I have probably used most of their range at one time or another.

So, when I go into a Lush shop (went on a shopping jolly on Saturday) why did I walk out empty handed? It is because the shop assistants are so blooming jolly and lovely but they just dont leave you alone!!! :rotfl:

I was approached at least 5-6 times in no time at all. I had my mum with me and was happily talking her through the products but each time I was interupted by a lovely jolly knowledgeable shop assistant telling me what I had just told my mum! :rotfl:

So Lush peeps, you are lovely, you truely are but on Saturday you were just too lovely, too jolly and little lushly smelling space invaders!

P.S. My mum did eventually buy a basket full of goodies!!!

  • Tell them it's a shame they don't do x, y and z anymore (pick products going back 6 years or so) so they know you do have SOME experience of their product... possibly more than them if they're new... teehee :D

It's the same here - the shop is new and thye are waaay too keen ;) I reckon if I go in enough they will get to recognise me and leave me alone... in the nicest possible way of course :D It's a pretty small shop though so you usually only get one!

    what are lush products like?
keep looking through the window as i walk past, but unfortunately the strength and mixture of scents in there makes me feel ill and have headaches very quickly when ive gone into the shop before!!!

overly keen shop assistants can be rough! you know theyre trying to be nice and do their job, but sometimes its just a little too much!

i agree, i wouldnt say they are pushy but the over friendliness or just the repetition of "are you ok there" "do you need any help" does grate on me immensley, but all in all its better than walking into a shop where the sale asistants blatenely ignore their customers !

Pushy assistants? Try Curry's! Went in there a couple of weeks ago and was followed round by an assistant and as we paused to look at anything, we were pestered!

We lasted 10 minutes before we left - it's online or shop elsewhere for us now!

I have walked out of my local Lush store several times because of this. They seem to have a lot more staff than other high street shops so you will typically be approached by 3 staff during your time in the shop and each one will sometimes approach you more than once. Arg! The last time I got hassled 6 times in the space of 5 minutes and at that point I gave up. I want some peace to be able to read the labels, think about what I want and work out how much I can spend. Having people constantly following me around and wittering in my ear doesn't help. I know several people in my town who are now too scared to go in there!

I luv the attention to get tempted by their suggestions and by engaging with them I got a few samples and some freebies.

I can't praise them enough AND I am hard to please !!

Perhaps to some they can be overbearing if you just want to browse.

I find Body Shop the opposite that one can't get the help you need.

I wrote to Lush a couple of years ago about this......I suggested that maybe customers who didn't want to be "bothered" by sales assistants picked up a little flag when they went in or just anything to show you want to browse uninterrupted. They wrote back and said they would talk to the staff in store and ask them to back off and also sent me a sorry present (which was very nice to get). The staff were better for a while but I went in a couple of weeks ago and got talked at by one sales assistant after another so ended up leaving the shop without buying anything. I even said that I just wanted to look and didn't need help but this didn't make any difference. This was the Leeds store, its such a pity as I do like their products.

its just continental sales techniques, you cant move in other countries for sales assistants poring over you and everwhere you go.
