Ebay disagree, which is why they will remove auctions that have copied pictures on them.

No-one should be mocked for protecting their own rights, no matter how trivial YOU think it is.
    Come on, get real.

If you copy/paste some text off a public internet page, are you stealing ??
If I borrow your picture to advertise my item, am I stealing your item ??
If I photocopy something, am I stealing ??

It's a copy & an indication of item being sold & should be clearly described as such.

How much time do you think eBay will put into someone saying their picture has been copied !!
They have enough serious problems to deal with rather than petty nonsense.

If you protect your picture somehow, fantastic.

    Hi there.

Just a gentle reminder about Martin's fundamental rule. :)

The copying of auction listings, text and/or photos, is theft.

Ebay does have a policy for this, http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/vero-image-text-theft.html

This happened to me twice. One of my photos has been used by 2 different people to sell there items. I reported them both to EBay and there item was pulled from the aution. Despite a small minority( on ebay as well as this site) who think that it's ok to steal another persons photo and/or words,it is not a nice or fair thing to do.

If I copy your words here, do I steal them ??

Have you lost anything whatsoever ??

  • I had a set of very nice pictures of the item i was selling, best set out of the entire category it was in actually, so mine was making the best price, now obviously, copycats saw the price mine was going at and stole the entire wording and pictures, thus lowering the price of mine.

So peter999 do you thing that is still ok?

Fortunally i reported them all, and the auction was pull. After that i watermarked all my pictures, they now have to use their crappy phone pics instead of mine.

I'm a freelance web developer so thought I'd add my input on a slightly different level.

If someone steals my source code, it is stealing.
If someone steals images from my website(s), it is stealing.
If you download pirate software, it is stealing.

Just because something's digital doesn't mean it's exempt from copyright..

Without express permission, it is violation of copyright thus punishable by criminal law under the Copyrights, Designs and Patents Act.

Did I hit a nerve? Have you been reported to EBay by any chance? To answer your question no you have not stolen my words and I have'nt lost anything, on THIS site because it is not againest the rules on here, but it is on Ebay.

And of course, you don't look at other people's source code & "interpret" your own way, do you ??

    GOTCHA !! :T

Ebay/the internet is a public forum & users will always read/borrow/learn from other people's listings
-that's why the internet is so successful.

If people could not copy, the internet would not have exploded & been so successful.

What's your user id & let's have a look at your listings.
    I'll critique them.
