How do you get your proof of posting

I am currently selling quite a few things on ebay some of which have now sold and need to be posted off.

I'm not sure how you all go about getting your proof of posting when you are taking multiple parcels to the PO at once. At our Post Office now you just get a printed receipt - they no longer do the postcard type certificates. So how would I know which item is which on the receipt?

Am I complicating things by maybe numbering the parcels (keeping a record at home of which parcel is which number) and processing them in that order so I know what parcel is which on the receipt?

Hope that makes sense and I'm sure there is a really simple answer that will make me feel rather daft!!

Thanks for any help:T

They should write the postcodes onto the receipt for you. (there's a wee section at the bottom)
That is your proof of posting.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.
  • Thanks Smartie - I thought it would probably be simple!
  • Although those printed receipts are proof of posting, I don't think you can track them and therefore have no come back as proof of actual delivery. So if something did go astray, I am not sure you could claim for the items amount. You still get the little cards if you send it recorded delivery which you have the address on that you have sent it to, but unfortunately this costs more to post, but I always think the fact that someone has to sign for it when delivered is peace of mind. I actually take that into account on my e-bay postage and state that it will be recorded delivery.

CoP isn't trackable, but you can use it to claim up to £32 if an item is lost or badly damaged.

always keep the pof as it can easily be photographed and sent via email to the person that is claiming 'have not recieved it' that way once that is done there is no come back. xx

The Post Office should put the postcode on the receipt and should also stamp it.

I'm afraid it's not that simple! Proof of postage is not proof of receipt!

I've found a PO that would not accept the CoP cards and would only issue the paper receipts. I find it much easier to use the cards as they said they had been told that these were no longer acceptable. I now use a different and much more friendly PO. Has anyone else come across this problem?

Victory - you are responsible for the delivery of items to buyers. The CoP is for your protection so that you can claim from the PO if something does not arrive. Only the sender can make the claim and you would need to refund the buyer separately.
  • No, if you state that you always obtain proof of postage and that non-delivery by the post office is not your responsibility then by bidding the potential buyer is deemed to have accepted that as part of the contract - if they want recorded then they can ask.

No, if you read your ebay terms and conditions you'll find that YOU are responsible for getting the item to the buyer. If it goes astray, it's up to YOU to claim compensation and refund your buyer.

Putting something on your auction saying you are not responsible will NOT hold water.
