If there's rules saying you aren't allowed to ring a doorbell, why not just say so in the first post instead of attacking me? And it's not "couldn't be bothered in 6 years", it's "took 3-4 years to realise the problem then didn't know anything could be done about it, since with renting, you take what you're given". Slight difference.
having rented many flats in many years i have never had that attitude
go back to your whining safe in the knowledge you could have addressed thie issue (no pun) very very easily0 -
What an awful attitude you have. All this attacking me and still not one word of explanation as to why the postman did not ring the doorbell, which is such an obvious solution. I'm not unreasonable, if you give me a good reason, then fair enough, but you haven't even tried. That said, if all postmen have an attitude like yours, it's no wonder so many people have bad experiences.
you only had a bad experience(if you wish to call it that) because you didnt do anything about it
the time you have spent her could have had it all solved
sad really0 -

Don't worry, I agree with you! I've had countless bad experiences with them too. Sorry you've come across someone who seems to be blatantly picking on you, we're not all like that. I don't understand why postmen can't ring the doorbell for the flat when delivering a parcel either??0 -
In my previous address, this was habitual with the postmen, slipping a "sorry you were not in" card through my door, so much so that I caught the postman red handed posting one of these cards through my door.
I said "I'm here - where is my parcel?" he had no choice but to admit it was back at the depot and I should go there to collect it, he wouldn't even justify why he was posting this blatant lie that I was not in, except to say it was "routine". Without a doubt it was an excuse as weak as water.
However I have got to say since moving to my current address, the Postman is great, no matter how big a parcel, he always manages to deliver it.
I guess it depends on the depot, where the majority actually do a good job, there are a few depots full of layabouts that in all honest simply cannot be bothered to deliver any parcels or packages, so deliberately leave them behind and carry a load of prepared cards proclaiming you are not in, so they can tiptoe up to your door and slip it through the letterbox.
Some will make the feeble excuse of "well we get too many parcels to deliver nowadays", like that is the customers problem, the fact a sender has paid for a service that involves a parcel going from A to B seems irrelevant.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I don't get some people on this board, they seem to want to have a go at folk for no reason.
Yes there are good posties and bad posties. The postie I've had where have lived for the past 3 years is very good. He never cards the house unless he has the parcel with him and has on several occassions come back with parcels at the end of his run on a Saturday morning cause he didn't want to wake us up too early!
However, I compare that to when i lived in a flat and the postman we had there regulalry carded us for stuff that would even have fit through the letterbox...like DVD's etc.
On several occasions I caught him at the door putting the card through and when caught tried to explain it as 'he tried to deliver yesterday.'
Oh really? Cause I only ordered it yesterday.
Then we went through a period of a few months where every DVD shaped parcel that was sent to the house went missing in the post. that's every single one.
After I realsied what was happening, I drove to the collection office and complained but was told that unless it was recorded delivery they couldn't refund me.
I of course didnt need refunded, i just wanted the blatant theiving to stop.
(one or two items in a row getting lost I can understand. 10 or 12 in a row is theft.)
Funnily enough, it did stop after that.0 -
I think possibly I was spoiled by the area I grew up in where the post service was excellent, so I expect similar quality elsewhere! Positive story for a change: I grew up in a very remote area, the type where everyone knows everyone else, people leave their doors unlocked all day even if they've gone out to the shops, etc. There, the post was excellent - if you were out, no problem, the postman would just open the door and put the parcel inside, even doing the signature himself if it's recorded delivery (much to the disgust of my cat, who sleeps on the chair the postman puts deliveries on, and is unfortunately much the same colour as said chair so often finds himself under a heap of letters! Don't worry, the postie does pay more attention if it's a big heavy parcel and doesn't totally flatten the poor cat
). Now I'm sure everyone used to towns would find this shocking - my family did at first, but there, everyone's on first-name terms with the postman, and you know you can trust him not to steal anything. My father worked as a relief postman for some time, filling in when the regular posties were on holiday, and I know from his stories that they'd regularly go the extra mile - delivering eggs, milk, basic groceries to the elderly and disabled who couldn't get out so easily, giving a friendly word to those same people, who get lonely at times, fighting their way up long drives in the worst of conditions; some winter nights he wouldn't get home till after 11pm! I have the utmost respect for the postmen in that area, the service they give is second to none.

balgair - I suspect the reason custardy didn't answer your question as to why your postman/woman didn't ring the doorbell is quite simple. It isn't something anyone other than the actual postman/woman responsible for your delivery could actually answer.
I say this as a postwoman - I know what I do when I get to a block of flats and the service button is off - I would buzz the people I have mail for and if I have no answer, would endorse the mail as 'No Access' with the date. I cannot say this is what everyone does, because as is human nature, we all do things differently.
The take I have on it is, imagine the disappoinment of the people you buzz who have no mail, who let you into the building only to discover you don't have a letter for them after all. Yes, there are some people on my route who are happy to let me in regardless, but unless I'm the regular postie, I wouldn't know that or want to risk it.
Hopefully this clarifies things a little.0 -
I know that was your complaint and I do understand your frustration, but rather than dwelling on this given that you have now moved (from what I understand of your previous post) maybe it's time to let it go?
As with any customer, if there is a complaint to be made, I would suggest you initially take up your complaint with your local delivery office manager or the customer services team - the details of both can actually be found on the back of the 'Sorry you were out' or 'Something for you' card.0 -
I haven't misunderstood you at all, in fact, as I explained, no one can explain why your postman/woman didn't ring your bell specifically when you were waiting in for a delivery. That is your question - one that no one other than the actual delivery person in question can answer....
I know what I do, I know that I teach others to do the same, I know that some will run around their walk, others will stroll, what I don't know and can't possibly know is what goes on in anyone elses mind, therefor like custardy or anyone else for that matter, we cannot answer the question you are asking.
What I do know is as postwoman who delivers by foot, I am frustrated by customers who throw open their door when I drop a 'Sorry you were out/Something for you' card and shout 'I'm in, where's the packet'
If everyone took a few seconds to notice the key information such as the date or time - they would maybe realise it wasn't the foot person who had the packet, but the driver (and yes, before I get shot down in flames, I am fully aware that the majority of the time these things are not filled in correctly).
If you order something from Amazon/Play/Ebay etc etc, and due to this weather, so do all your neighbours - realistically - how many packets do you think your average postie can actually physically carry.
I will also point out the most guilty suspects of opening doors and shouting at me tend to live on the 3rd floor of tenement flats. Do you seriously think I'd take your precious packet up and down umpteen flights of stairs, get to your door and think, I'll not bother knocking - I'll just stick a card through.....trust me, if it's in my bag, I'll knock your door until I am sure you really aren't in.0
