And another for today makes 11 out of 10, according to Nargle's Law of Surreal Mathematics.

Boxing Day can be an anticlimax or it can bring a sense of relief, knowing the hype and build up is over and you can relax, examine your prezzies at your leisure, munch away on leftovers and not feel ashamed at wolfing half a box of liquorice allsorts at one sitting.

OH is full of the miseries - stuff going on at work, fed up because family haven't contacted him, brassed off because I didn't spend as much on him as he did on me - he just doesn't get it, that Christmas giving is about the thought and not how much you spend. Most of my money goes on household bills, and while he pays the mortgage, the insurances and council tax, he cannot grasp the fact that we should be sticking to a tight budget. Nearly every time I go shopping he always comes up with something else for the list (while you're out see if you can get....) and it's usually something non-essential. Then he'll spot something on ebay, bid for it, win it and expect me to pay half. Regardless of the fact that we probably already have the item, or it's an additional present for someone when we have already got that person enough. He seems to have a compulsion to acquire more and more stuff, even though reckless spending got us both into deep water in the first place.

Well, 2011 is going to be different. I am going to be cutting spending to the bone wherever possible, because things are rising in price all the time and we have the VAT increase to look forward to. Also I am on a payfreeze for the next year or so, so will have to make the money go even further. We will not be having a family holiday as I have promised DS that he will be able to go on the next school trip that comes up (he missed out this year because we went abroad in the summer and I couldn't afford the school trip as well). I will be scouring the forums for cheap summer holiday ideas for 2011 and looking out for Travelodge deals and cheap rail fares. I will keep trying to grow veggies in the garden, and get a couple more chickens to keep ours company and provide more eggs. And I will try and stretch out the NSDs and make my target evey month next year! OH might not like austerity measures but he is going to get them by the bucketload, like it or not! Onwards and upwards!

Evening all - well I've had a thoroughly lazy boxing day. Got up about lunchtime, had two cups of tea and went back to be until 4.30pm  However, I figured that after all the running around for xmas, and cooking dinner yesterday, I had well and truly earned a few hours snoozing. We're seeing friends tonight so I have just whizzed some turkey and cheesecake over to my mum for her dinner tonight (her fridge stopped working a couple of weeks ago and she's waiting for the new one to be delivered - luckily in this weather milk etc is ok to be kept outside but I didn't want to risk turkey). She was very pleased with her 'meals on wheels' delivery, which was nice :) (brownie points for me)

Tomorrow I must do a bit of cooking with the leftovers - currently our fridge is awash with bowls and plates covered in tin foil - will be a good excuse to use my new Nigella cook book :j

Nargle - sorry to hear OH has the grumps atm, it's hard when you are in a position where OH doesn't see the same viewpoint - esp when you keep getting forced to spend. Good luck with 2011 - you can do it :grouphug:

I'm not quite declaring a NSD today yet - but all being well it should be. Tomorrow I have no plans to leave the house. I am tempted to pop into the sales on Tues though - I don't really NEED anything but I do have a couple of bits to take back and would like a wee mooch (OH b'day is at the end of Jan so I might see something while I'm out - I dunno. ... I just about get through the stress of Xmas gifts and it seems to start all over again :rotfl:)

Well Friday turned out to be the NSD that I had hoped for (really wanted to look for the bargains as I was leaving work but decided that the need to get out of the hell hole was greater) then yesterday and today were NSD's aswell. Meaning I have reached my 3rd target :) AND made my 6 in a row :):)

Tomorrow will deff be a spendy day though as I have been looking through L1dl's offers for this week and there are several that I think I will take advantage of (to the tune of about £13 eek)

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. I had a lovely day with my family (love having 4 generations under one roof and the fun we have) but sort of glad to be back home now and getting DS back into his routine.
