central heating probs

Hi,
long time since I had a moan about this but it has taken a surprising twist. For a while my husband and I thought we could smell gas every now and then. We had transco out twice and each time they said it was the gas hob. Each time we got back the fitter (not the central heating people) and he sorted it. On friday we had a washer deleivered and as soon as the man came in he said that it stank of gas (think we must have became used to it). We called Transco again and this time after doing some tests he shut the whole gas supply off as it posed an immediate danger. He found a leak that wasnt conected to the cooker. This left us with no heat/hot water or hob. My father rang the central heating firm (it was coming from one of their pipes) and he basically said it wasnt his problem and refused to come out until we paid him what we owed him (are making arranged payments) He then rang enviromental health to see if breathing in gas would have any side effects. A docter called me back and said to go straight ot the GP as although it isnt toxic it does cause headaches, sore throats, diziness and nausea. All symptoms we have had including our two children who we have had to the docter about these sypmtoms (we thought it was time of year illness) I myself have had time off work due to blinding headaches. It turns out this had been leaking since it was installed and we have all been breathing it in.
We had to pay another firm to come out on saturday as a matter of urgency to find the fault. It took him just over three hours before he found it. Of course this cost us a pretty penny. he also noticed that our boiler was a B rating (had been sold A rating) and that it didnt comply with Corgi standards!
My husband is off to see a solicitor after work to see if we have a case against this firm. We are jsut thanking our lucky stars that it want more serious eg carbon monoxide and that we will not have any long term health effects.
thanks for reading x0 -
Sorry to hear about your problems i.e. boiler installation. If you haven't done so already you should contact CORGI at https://www.corgi-gas-safety.com to report your current situation (assuming the installer was CORGI registered) You should have received a Notification certificate in the post after the installation as each installation must be notified through Building Control or CORGI (if installer has the right to self certify). This certificate confirms that the installation conforms to current building regs and will be required if you plan to sell on in the future. CORGI registered installers are required to follow certain procedures as outlined in my previous post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=311858
Good luck...cowboys and rogue traders belong in a 'special' place.

Hi
They are corgi registered and we did recieve a certificate. The guy that came to sort it said the boiler valves were wrong. Something about a water valve being on a gas valve or something like that and there was something on back to front. He has said that he will provide a statement should we need one.
Thanks for taking the time to reply x0
