Unless theyve changed how they do things these days, the FREE version of AVG wouldnt ask for a licence
Which site did you download it from?
Id recommend a few scans -
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin):idea:0 -
I downloaded it from the avg website, but someone or something has sent emails from my aol account, which prompted me to check it out. I recently moved house and am using a different provider and a different router. But my daughter downloaded stuff from torrents, and I believe since then I have been vulenerable. As you can probably tell I dont have much understanding or knowledge of anything too technical, but I do need simplistic help, for a simpleton!!0

Sounds to me like it either wasnt the AVG website, or you simply clicked on the version that wasnt free
Either way, please follow the instructions in post #5:idea:0 -
I already have malwarebytes installed, but will check the version when I get home, and will also follow the other instructions, many thanks0

Make sure you UPDATE it (database version is most important)
If it wont update, uninstall and follow my instructions from the top:idea:0 -
