Airbag Light

  • As has been said, could be a seat sensor. The idea being that the airbag won't deploy unless someone is sat in the seat. Faulty sensor/connection = confused car = light.

    That's interesting.

How did you test the airbag and come to that conclusion?

    Easy.

3 club members that had done the paper clip trick wrote their cars off.

    Airbags deployed as usual.

    I was part of Cliosport.net

It's as PewPew states. The sensor was shorting so putting the paperclip in bridged the connection again and turned off the light.

It's a design issue as on all phase 2 clios the switch is just under the seat with no protection. People in the back of the car that push their feet under the seat usually damaged the wires

Airbag warning lights tend to be amber, which suggests that it's not dangerous (ie; the airbag won't deploy for no reason). Chances are, if the airbag is faulty, it just won't deploy in an accident. You could take the fuse for the warning lamp out, although I'd imagine this fuse serves more than one thing, so beware.

Yep tbh before this car I had a 1991 Ford Fiesta, which didn't even have an airbag, so I am sure I can do without one for now (touch wood, fingers crossed etc.etc.). Its xmas, I'd rather than spend money on pressies than getting airbag fixed (I hope I don't go on to regret that!)

Ha yes, thats what I got the feeling from googling. I just don't want to have to shell out and pay for it.

This morning it did actually go off, but then turned on halfway through my journey, so I think it's safe to say somethings just not sensing (or I lost a hell lot of weight during my trip!)

Absolutely...People rely on airbags far too much. They only serve to suppliment the seatbelts in an accident, and we haven't always had airbags, as you know!

    Just a side issue:

My daughter has a front baby car seat and she had to have the air-bag disconnected for it to be legal.

I don't want to sound too blunt here, and apologies if I do, but what is your point? I think you're saying that on a side note, where some might deem it unsafe to have airbags not working, you can have the passenger one not working.

My car has a key to turn off the passenger airbag yourself.

    Oh sorry Stigy,
I saw a post earlier where someone said it was going to be part of the MOT, I was thinking if my daughter took her car with the air-bag disconnected would it fail, I should have explained more I do apologise?
