Trojan's are spyware programs basically, so if you have any banking passwords etc then it would be a good idea to change them, and anything else sensitive you have stored on your PC.
No anti virus will be able to stop 100% of threats so don't give up on Avg. I've had it for 3 years and only had 2 trojans the entire time.
If you'd like extra reassurance Malware Bytes is a great program to scan for malware/ spyware (it's not a "sheild", but you have that with AVG anyway.

Thanks,nice reply.
I havent been on any dodgy websites either......well not recently anyway!
I have seen all this talk of malwarebytes.I am a technophobe and am worried about running this with AVG(which i am pleased with). Is it ok to have this installed then as well? No problems etc
...and can i do it off your link and how do i then use it? Many thanks0 -
.........oh and by the way i got the dodgy email to my Username.I opened it but didnt click any links but deleted it.0

These things get into PC's all kind of ways!
I have both Malwarebytes and AVG running together, daily scans on both but set for different times so they don't clash. As AVG is the shield and MB the scanner they exist quite happily alongside.
Using the link it will take you to Tech Spot, select download and then Run. Further instructions should appear on screen. Once installed have a look around to get yourself used to the program, it doesn't update automatically, you have to do that manually in the Update tab. One tip to make scans faster is to always delete temporary internet files (Tools, Internet Options, Delete browsing History) when you've finished on the net.0 -
Thanks for info KxMx0

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin):idea:0 -
You can have AVG and MBAM on the same system, as only one runs in the background (MBAM is just an 'on demand' scanner), but TBH you'd be well advised to remove the dire AVG and install a decent free alternative such as Avira, Avast, or MSE (or Kaspersky is free if you have Barclays online banking). AVG Free used to be OK but has a poor record nowadays. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks aliEnRIK.......i am not great on pc's.
Is the above quite simple? and waht is wrong/different about the advice from KxMx i.e using malwarebytes.org to do a scan, which looks easier to me.....sorry it seems mistrusting but dont know which direction to take......0 -
macman.............i hear what you say(i mean SEE what you say!) and all our experiences are different.
To be honest Ive had no problems with this newer version of AVG.Its just found and healed 2 trojans(blighters!)....but a previous version wasnt so good.

The fact K mentions AVG clearly shows they dont know much about computers
My instructions are quite simple. I do know a bit about removing trojans. Probably more than most on here
If you decline my advice thats entirely upto you:idea:0
