According to recent article in TheBusinessonline
"CARPHONE Warehouse’s chief executive, Charles Dunstone. has paid a higher price than he expected for AOL’s 1.5m Britishbroadband internet customers . It looked a bargain price: £370m ($703m, E482m). about one-third of the £1bn AOL originally expected.
Since the purchase Carphone Warehouse shares have been savaged, falling in the past few days from more than 350p to around 26p. Analysts are warning they could halve in value."

I think you have the figures the wrong way around !0 -
What was the point behind this thread?
It seems to be mischievous.
1) Carphone Warehouse haven't paid twice for AOL.
2) Carphone Warehouse shares haven't dropped to anything like 26p. Currently they are 285p and rising.
The recent fall in their shares followed them losing Voda, and had nothing to do with the AOL deal.0 -
i think what the op meant was their share fell BY 26p from/to 350p.  :beer:0
-
Sorry i did not notice the typo in the article i pasted from and linked to.
Nothing mischievous was intended. Nor was anyone implying that the share drop had anything to do with them buying aol as far as i can see.0 -

Well weren't you were the one who wrote:Since the purchase Carphone Warehouse shares have been savaged, falling in the past few days from more than 350p to around 26p.
If you didn't "see" that implification, then you must be related to Arsenne himself!;)

No i did not write it . The person who wrote the article i referred to did. I was just quoting from it. Seems to me that digit was missed off end of share price.Mistakes do happen.0
-
First you "couldn't see" any implication between your thread and the purchase of AOL.
Now you say you didn't even write the offending post.
You are far better than Arsenne when it comes to not seeing the dirty fouls.
So what was the point behind this thread then?0 -
Wow, Quentin - you seem better than Jose at misrepresenting the facts!!
Post #8 says, "The person who wrote the article i referred to did" - doesn't sound like hurrah denies writing the post, as you say he does - only the article.
I don't know what the point behind the post was - I got a warm glow and gave a quiet smile that Charles Dunstone's co is suffering a bit on the markets - given the chaos many of those customers who jumped in for the "free forever" BB have experienced. Check these threads if you don't know about it - nice to see his co [and him, hopefully] suffering a bit, even if it isn't a direct result of that particular fiasco.
This is a consumer site afterall - or do you have a different agenda?0 -
No agenda at all.
But this thread is completely misleading - they haven't paid twice for AOL have they? But that's the thread's title.
Who wrote that? (Lets wait for an Arsenne type denial from the person who wrote it)0
