Where do you put your cat's litter tray?

Hi all,
My OH and I are hoping to rehome a kitty in the new year :T
We have a 2 bed garden flat and will get a flap put in eventually but will also have a litter tray available. We're not sure which room would be best to put the tray in?
Lounge room - eew?
Bathroom - maybe, but what if the cat wants it when we're showering etc.
Kitchen - quite small and I don't really like the idea of a litter tray in the same room that I cook!
Bedroom - no!
Spare room - maybe, but what about when we have friends to stay?
So I'm wondering which room people on here use?
Thanks

I have been known to use the bathroom, spare room, kitchen, study nook off the lounge, hall and I currently have it in the hall/laundry cupboard.
I have a covered tray and use Cat's Best OKO Plus litter as for me it's the best for odour control, very rarely has anyone other than me noticed any niffs emanating from it! of course choice of litter can be dictated byt he cat, some just don't like certain litters but that's cats for you!0 -
My cats have litter trays up and downstairs in the hall (5).
We used to have 5 cats, but 3 have passed on but I still put out 5 for some reason.0 -
Ah thanks both! And especially dancer for the tips! Might look at using the bathroom I think... I'm so excited even though it's weeks away!0

Covered trays are certainly the way to go!0

We've always had a covered litter tray and in our last house it was in the kitchen. Now it's in the utility room."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

I keep mine in the understairs cupboard. This house its off the kitchen, but up a step and far enough away from the cooking area. The house before, the cupboard was off the lounge, but it was fine. If you keep the door to, even when they've just been, it doesn't smell too bad. I know someone who had a catflap fitted to their understairs cupboard so that the cat could go in there without the door being opened.
In the flat I had when I got my first cat, I was lucky enough to have a tiny utility room off the lounge and it just fitted in there.
I don't like the idea of having one in the bathroom, even though I have a covered one. Its thought of having a steamy shower and the cat going for a really smelly one!0 -
Luckily I only need the tray at night for my old girl, so its just inside the back door in the kitchen from 10pm and OH puts it outside or in the garage before he goes to work at 6am so its not really a problem in the kitchen for a few hours..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I put both of mine in the spare room. Admitedly also when I have visitors they sleep in the lounge. Either that or I let them have my bedroom and I sleep with the cat litter- one covered, one not. Not the best option I'll grant you!
Good idea under the stairs though- I should have thought of that before I filled it up with all the other cr4p!0 -
In my last place it was kept under the stairs for a while - the kitchen was much too small to think of having it in there. There was also a cupboard about the size of a telephone box opposite the back door and I ended up moving it there. The flat previous to that had a funny layout and ultimately the only convenient place was in the bathroom. Currently I have a fairly big kitchen diner arrangement and the kitty tray goes in the dining area. I rarely use the dining area for actual dining though (preferring to trough in front of the telly), but if I had guests round then the litter tray would be relocated to a spare bedroom upstairs until the guests had gone. Two of my kitties are big scardy wooses and disappear when I have visitors and display great spincter control as they don't pee or poo when anyone other than me is in the house.0

Mines actually in the hallway, just to the left of the door as you come in! however - once again the wonderment of a covered litter tray! i can't recommend them enough! i use worlds best litter, and have a litter locker too. It's brilliant0
