  • Well, speaking from experience, you'll definitely have to be organised once Spud arrives...!!

PS Sleepless nights will begin BEFORE spud's arrival when you get so big you can't get comfortable in bed and you have insomnia. Just your body's way of preparing you for no sleep with a newborn!

You might find this site useful for looking for current bargains in the main supermarkets:

Making your own does tend to be cheaper than buying.Admittedly I am retired & have the time but I make my own pasta,bread,ice-cream,soup,sauces etc.(healthier as well).A slo cooker filled in the morning will cook healthy meals with melt in your mouth meat & presents a lovely welcome home smell when returning from work.

Is it disturbing that I find that idea quite sexy??!! Maybe we could meet by the bananas & you could work out the best deal as they insit on pricing loose ones by the kilo & pre-packaged ones by the banana which never fails to confuse me? I'll be the pregnant one with an excel spreadsheet for a shopping list & a fist ful of coupons.

  • I've set our budget at £325 for March. That is for a family of 5 including 3 teenager sons! Included in that is toiletries and laundry supplies. I managed this for both January and February - just! I don't see how I can reduce it much more just now.

LMAO:D I hate it when they mix their price/weight stats. I'm sure they do it on purpose to fox us. Maybe you should add a conversion chart to your spreadsheet?;)

  • I've been flicking through the pages on mse for about 6 months now and have finally built up the courage to say something! We are a family of 5 (2 adults & 3 kids) and I'd welcome any tips on trying to stick to a budget for grocery shopping as our monthly tesco bill is usually around £600 (grocery/toiletries/household). I'm always amazed at how easily money slips through our fingers. We've recently built up debt on our credit card and realise that we need to cut back & be sensible from now on.

In all seriousness MATH, that's not a bad idea. If you list the weights of the stuff you usually buy on your spreadsheet then you can easily tell if anything on fixture ferrets is a deal or not.

OK, I'll be the saddo taking up the whole isle with 2 trolleys, 1 of food and one full of excel spreadsheet printouts all alphabetically indexed according to product name/ brand name/ price so I can find them quicker :D
