  • Hi Mads13, would be interested to find out how the tesco value washing powder is like as I am considering buying it. I currently use the tesco branded one above it although it is non-bio as I have 2 kids with eczema. Also let me know about the conditioner. By the way was your delivery charge included in that amount?

I tried swapping to Sainsburys own brand washing tablets(instead of Bold or Daz) but find that they don't dissolve as well so either it ends up all soogy still in the drawer or I've got white marks all over my dark wash so i have to wash it again. I've tried it twice now but am going back to my old favourites and keeping the own brand for emergency use( or when I'm boiling up the dishclothes) only!!

    Lady Marmelade,
My son has excema and I've tried almost every soap powder and find only persil non bio or Surcare any good for him. I am not brand loyal in any way for any other product except this.
Anyway I find if my kids come with me to the shop I spend a fortune and yet come home with no dinners but with a headache - how does that happen eh?
Another thing I've found is that if you do you internet shopping with Sainsbury's for a few shops and then stop and change to , say, Tesco's, after a few weeks sainsbury's will start sending you e-vouchers to get your custom back. Likewise for tesco, so if you're were smart you could alternate around the shops. I haven't tried Asda yet but Iceland also sent me some vouchers which was nice.

    Hi Ladymarmalade

Yes that price included delivery. I did have £5 in vouchers which helped. The washing powder smells lovely..not too perfumed and fabric conditioner smells nice and fresh..alot like comfort the normal blue one, but not as strong smelling. My daughter too has bad skin, so do sympathise. I have tried all brands, but im hoping that as it is not loaded with added scents it will be gentler on the skin. I will let you know how i got on as I did 2 washloads this evening :D
The substitutes tesco gave me were fine too. All in all I was quite delighted as I normally shop with asda. Including in that price was a 1.5kg minced lamb, which by itself was nearly £4.00, but I have to stick to a certain diet, so for under £30 I was very pleased :p

    Will let you know

  • Have just been looking at everyone's shopping budgets, and I'm ashamed. My borfriend and I live together (plus rabbit), our shopping bill has been creeping up, and is now hitting about £100 per week! For two adults! I'm obviously doing lots of things wrong, I need advice. Where do I start? We shop at Sainsbury's because it's nearest but could go a bit further to Asda - would this save us much? We buy a lot of fruit and veg (accounts for about £30 of the total shopping bill) but I don't know of a market nearby. I would really appreciate some help, you are all really good at this!

its interesting that you say that cos I found that too and ended up using anything like that in teh drum rather than the drawer. the only thing I put i n the drawer now is my white vinegar insted of conditioner

on another note regarding laundry - please do consider reducing the amount of product you actually use - I've got it down to a shot glass of liquid (cant remember which brand) and my clothes (admittedly not heavily soiled) are lovely and clean and fresh, dont get colour fade and are lovely and soft. I do a 40degree easy care wash for everything and once every couple of months a boil wash for towels and sheets to perk them up if they need it or if I've had lots of visitors

I guess I should wander back over to this thread to carry on the washer woman talk ;)

    Jessielicious, check out this thread:

And if you can't glean anything from that post some examples of what you buy and we'll see if we can give you any pointers.

I suspect that you are buying ready-meals? Probably Sainsburys Finest! And that you buy lunch (ready made) from a shop?

I can guarantee that you will save money, feel healthier and eat better if you spend a maximum of £10 on a decent cook book and start cooking from scratch. I used to think that that would be far to time consuming and I wouldn't sit down to eat until 10pm! But, if you also invest in a slow cooker, are cunning by making double and freezing stuff for days when you just want to bung stuff in the oven it can be done easily and quickly.
When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt ;)

    hi,
    hoping for some recommendations.
As per my own grocery challenge I buy all my veg and fruit for the week at a very very cheap market on Saturday. However, i have a second job in the evening and I often only know I am working at the last minute - this means that often lots of my veg and especially fruit goes off before I get to eat it. I get fed for free if I work (bonus of the events catering business!). I cant cut down on the amount I buy incase I dont work that week and I dont want to switch to frozen because it works out a bit more expensive and I just love my fresh food!
Does anyone have any recommendations on the type of fruit/veg that will keep the longest - also any ideas on how to stop fresh stuff going off would be very much appreciated!! :D
I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!!

pumpkins keep for up to a year if they are not bruised or damaged! Butternut squash also keep well.
Why not roast a load of veggies then they will keep in the fridge for a few days to be used as pasta sauce, pie fillings etc. Roasted courgette, mushroom, aubergine and peppers is lovely.
potatoes and carrots - keep them out of the fridge.
keep celery in a jug of water.
put fresh herbs straight into the freezer after rinsing then you can snap a bit off when you need it.
Frozen peas are actually fresher than 'fresh' ones and tesco value peas are just fine;)
I have had success with just putting fresh cauliflower, green beans and corn on the cob into the freezer, with no blanching. You can even freeze tomatoes if you are going to use them for sauces.
