Propane Gas - Current prices??

I have just received my latest invoice from Flo gas. (19/11/08).
The price is 40.89p/l plus a 3p surcharge.
The excuse for price increases and surcharges is that I was informed by Flo Gas that it was linked to the price of oil.
Why then if all their costs have dropped ie the gas at the source and distribution by road transport to point of delivery has the price not been reduced or surcharge removed?
The reason is that they have a virtual monopoly.
Can they be reported to any goventment body?
We are trapped into these supplies due to the complexity of tank replacement.
How do others feel and can Martin help?0 -
Good news for all long suffering LPG users! On 13th April 2009 your supplier will be obliged to transfer ownership of the tank to whichever supplier you choose. This must under normal circumstances take place within 28 days of the request by the customer. At last a truly competitive market, which should bring down inflated prices.0

Flogas and Calor have 80% of the UK market stitched up, one is a PLC and the other company is private, but it is run as a PLC
The final salaries of the Owners of the private company are dictated by the turnover per annum.
As they cannot increase their market share they need to cut services, and/or increase prices to make more money for their own pockets.
Both companies have dragged out an investigation into their competivity re prices etc for over 5 years, latterley so that they can sign up on a two year contract as many mugs as possible before the 31st of March 2009.
There are lots of smaller suppliers who would like to compete with them, but have been frozen out because of the rules re tank change , all of that is about to come home to roost on the above date.
I informed one of these companies that I was being ripped off to the tune of 44.5p per ltr and the very informative guy there told me the average was 32p per ltr.
Thank you Flo Gas for your continued efforts to make my life more expensive.
As I live in a small village there are a fair number of Propane users , all of which are about to recieve a letter telling them of the opt out which is on its way.
Apparently in the short term BP is the cheapest "Big Company" provider.0 -
I have been at the mercy of Flogas ever since it purchased BG's LPG business several years ago. During this time Flogas has consistently gouged its consumers (and easily "out-gouged" even the likes of Calorgas). Thankfully the new anti-competition rules will help a bit. The fact that this legislation has taken so long and is still far from ideal (e.g. requirement of changing tank ownership will ensure that anti-competition continues to a certain degree) is testimony to the complete ineptitude of the Government (I wonder which Lord got paid £100,000 to stall/modify this legislation!).
My only advice to anyone who is about to change suppliers is to avoid signing longterm contracts at all costs and to definitely avoid Flogas ... they are the essence of unscrupulousness!0 -
Great news that the new legislation is coming in.
However if you could reduce your energy usage and use some alternatives you'd save more then any shopping around for gas suppliers.
Think insulation, draughtproofing, wood burners, solar water, solar PV, thermal stores, water turbines, wind turbines, Ground source heat pumps, Air source heat pumps etc etc...0 -

LPG prices. I am with Calor and they charge me 47.6 ppl. They keep asking me for more money. I am already paying £156 per month and they want to up it by £88 per month. I have told them I cannot afford this as on DLA and home all day so need to keep warm.
Basically they have said that unless I pay it, I no longer will be allowed gas deliveries on account, they want paying up front.
It is now in the hands of my MP.
On the electric prices, I am with Swalec on the social tariff and I pay 8.09ppu.0 -
Blimey I haven't seen a 9p Unit of electricity for a while, do you mind sharing which supplier/tariff gives that?
B.G although I wasnt a fan of BG they were the cheapest. Click energy 6 online tarriff, 18.784p/Kwh for 1st 125 units per quarter,= £23.40 then 8.665p/Kwh the rest. = 3663 x 8.665 = £317 + £23 = £340 - £8 discount = £332 + 5% vat = £348.There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

OK ... so how much was this ASHP ... I know a little about them ... is it using wet central heating ... and if so, did you have to modify the rads etc.
If it's expensive, then it's not much of an option ... if not then it may be a go-er'!
