we may well spend Fri following the MtC trail - looks good

It is probably 2 miles to Hawkshead, the downside is there are no pubs within walking distance from the farm. Here is a map of their location - http://www.highwrayfarm.co.uk/map.htm

On the upside, there are some nice walks you can do from the farm, one we like takes you down onto the west side of Lake Windermere and through the grounds of High Wray Castle.

My partner and I love Bowness on Windermere. We have stayed at the Angel Inn which is rooms above a pub. Great food in the restaurant in the evening. We have also stayed at The Howbeck which is in Windermere. This is a gorgeous recently renovated hotel which serves a cracking breakfast. Take a row/motor boat out onto Windermere for an hour is its a nice day. Really relaxing.
  • I love Windermere and Keswick, they're all driving distance wherever you stay, so have a good look around. Not really stayed in any reasonably priced hotels in the lakes, only in pampering places (which there's lots of) but theres loads of places to go.

I would also recommend the watermill or if you want to spend a little more the Linthwaite House Hotel near Windermere.

Or you could also stay at the aynsome manor hotel near Cartmel, which is a fantastic hotel with very good service.

Depends on what you want to spend...

Oh and don't forget to pop into the ice cream farm near grange if the weather stays like this.

I personally would avoid central Bowness very tourist trappy. One place to go for a very nice meal is Lucys on a Plate or Lucy Bistro in Ambleside.

    Regards

Agree about central Bowness. It was great for finding presents to bring home and we did take the boat from there but it is touristy and not one of the more pleasing parts of the area. The public toilets were not a nice experience.

I will say though that the chaps on the ticket desk at the coach park were extemely helpful and pleasant.

    Hello from Kendal!

There's lots of places to recommend... Linthwaite, Gilpin Lodge, Holbeck Ghyll... Google for them and then go from there.

    Try http://www.ukhotel.com/cumbria+lake-district/ also.

It'd be really useful to have a bit more information to advise more specifically.
