It is funny, isn't it :D. I had a team in N Ireland last week, due to fly back Fri. Luckily we were proactive so they booked a ferry for Fri am, then a hire car. Trouble was, all there cars were at airports. One member of staff visited 3 different airports dropping 2 others off & then collecting his own car!

Good luck! Cheery thoughts winging their way to your bus :j

Considering all the trouble the East Coast line has had today, I think she made the right decision to go yesterday, even tho they had so much trouble themselves.

How are you, Pippi? And the Piplets?
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Piplets packed kc for the trip - find out tomorrow whats what with them and hope they travel OK

Cheery, I think she's trying to find a hotel, only missed the boat by about 1/2 hour, infact I'm watching the boat come in - poor cheery - at least she'll be here tomorrow.

OH due up here on Wed (weather permitting) and I *should* be going doon sooth on thurs (fingers crossed.)

Hope you're good KC - poor cheery eh?

Rustling out the darwin docs to get him taxed so cheery can use the chap whilst she's here.

    Candles on - just chillin'

Oh and half my exhaust was trailing along by the car today - that was a bit unexpected. What a nuisance - we stopped and tied it up (iphone cable - lol) and attached back to the car = need to figure that one out tomorrow.

    x

Hope you've had a good day.

Not bad ... did a bit of shopping ... realised I have a cold .... I'm about to desert mse for Time Team and raspberry brandy :D

Poor Cheery indeed - that bus was supposed to get the ferry too! Such a long travel time she's having, Mr Daffs too.

LOl to the original use of the iphone cable! Hope it still works :rotfl:

I'm expecting her to turn up in a kayak - she has that kind of spirit - never to be downhearted.

Cheery - I did giggle at your wibble (sorry) but it will all be fine - I've only done the slightest of tidy up (only the most disgusting bits) and if thats not a sign of a good friendship - I dunno what is

My homestead is your homestead - and I'm sorry you've been delayed - you've not bothered us - remember it was wednesday you were originally going to arrive! Jut mean DD and I can have a little chill on our own (not that you wouldn't be welcome) but - no bother either way :A

glad you're almost at the stage where you can see each other, at least Cheery know's she'll definitely make it there before christmas.
I'm having a mini meltdown about being able to park at the outlaws. The least of my worries really but i guess if i fixate on something as innocuous (sp?) at that then it will be ok.
Gave up and wrote my christmas cards tonight, will shove them in the post tomorrow and hopefully they will get somewhere by sometime. At least i know i've sent them.

    Aww, you're so lovely :D

I'm glad you're all having a good laugh at my travelling palavers :rotfl: I am too (now!). Shall i give you a mini update?!

National Rail said trains weren't running north of Lairg, but there was apparently a coach that was running (not a replacement bus, an ordinary coach trip), so we headed to INverness to catch the coach. Couldn't get hold of hte company to book first.

Checked at the train station first - they said train was giong to Lairg, but replacement bus was DEFINITELY going to Thurso from there, and would probably get there before the train would have done anyway cos the road is shorter, so we'd DEFINITELY make the ferry...

Unwilling to put ourselves at the mercy of train company again - so decided to go on the coach - roads all open and clear etc. Coach running fine an on time - but they'd just sold the last seats to the people ahead of us in the queue :rotfl: Said we could come back just before they left and some people might not have turned up - but the train left first, so we went and got on that...

Train went very slowly.......... but they kept talking about a replacement bus at Lairg at 3.45, still time to make the ferry.

Got to Lairg at 4 - surprise, surprise, no replacement bus... :rotfl: Poor train conductor! Did lots of ringing around, apparently 'someone' had 'forgotten' to order a bus  They were ordered to take us all the way back to Inverness (!) so we could get on the next train to Lairg, where we cold transfer to - yep, that's right - a replacement bus :rotfl:

Conductor (rightly!) told them this was nonsense, and refused to do any such thing :D Also refused to turf us off the train until we had somewhere to go, so we all just sat there - along with the people who'd got ON the train trying to go back to Inverness, and waited the promised 30 mins for the bus.

At 4.50 (nearly an hour after bus was due, and half an hour after they said it'd be there), conductor figured out they'd actually ordered the bus - which was coming from Inverness :rotfl:

Tried to order us a taxi to take us directly to the ferry terminal (an hour and a half away) - but no taxis to be had anywhere in Scotland seemingly :rotfl:

Eventually the 'bus' turned up - a 16 seater minibus - and there were more than 16 of us on the train :rotfl: Decided ferry folk and children should get on the bus, and driver reckoned we'd still make the ferry...

Which we might have done if the driver hadn't had to keep stopping to answer the phone - to the train company, who were trying to figure out why he hadn't turned up at Lairg (he had, obviously).

Eventually got to Thurso about half 7 (ferry left at 7), and now nicely ensconced in hostel above chip shop :D Toasty warm, free internet, and I've just eaten the most decadent meal I've ever had in a hostel in my life (baked potato, goats cheese, and jamie oliver rosemary pesto :rotfl:)

cup of tea on the go, film on the tv, and we're planning on catching the ferry at 8.45 tomorrow morning

    Wish us luck! :D:D
