Parking fine

I'm sooooooooo mad! I had a parking fine of £30 on 15/9/10 that was reduced to £12 if paid within 14 days. I paid it on the 28/9/10 at £12 and thought no more of it.

Today I received a letter from a debt collection agency for £71 stating that I had not paid the original fine. I went to the car parking office with my bank statement to show them that I had paid the fine but they said that there is nothing that they could do and I would have to take it up with debt collection agency.

My friend who had a parking fine the same day as me and paid the fine the same day as me also had the letter from the debt collection people.

What do I need to do? Will the debt collection people believe me without the receipt that i had when I paid the fine. Will they believe a copy of my bank statement when that could have been from another fine as far as they are concerned?

is this a council parking ticket or a private parking ticket (supermarket/motorway services etc) if private you did not need to pay in the first place

  • Certainly unusually cheap for a council, and the debt collection agency leads one to believe its private. Post pn the parking forum please as more people will see it.

But they do mention the "car parking office" which might mean it is the council. Unless, of course, they are talking about the wooden hut inhabited by a PPC drone in a car-park.

  • That's what I assumed anyway. Never heard of a council going from £30-£12.

Could you tell us clairecymru, was this a council parking ticket or one from a private parking company? If the latter, what was the name of the parking company and its debt collectors?

Really? I've just got a ticket for £60 from a private car park - what's the drill for scrapping it? Any advice would be lovely!

You don't have to "scrap anything" just ignore everything they send to you. For more advice, please look at the "Parking Fines, Tickets & Parking" section of this message board.

Ignore it absolutely, they have no jusisdiction to fine you. Only the council and the police have the power to fine you. It is really just an unenforcable invoice. They will threaten you, tell you they may do this and they may do that, but they wont. Their chances are minimal. The can only target the driver of the car, who is to tell them who was actually driving it, you wont will you.

Ignore anything and everything, do not attempt to even contact them, they will know they have you in their clutches and it will mean they send you even more threatening letters so stop worrying.
Have a look at the PePipoo website on private parking 'fines'
