The bottom line is - DON'T PAY.

No legal obligation to pay. To do so only gives in to this sort of practise.

Just stumbled across this thread and have learned some very interesting facts.

My daughter parked in a supermarket car park, and didn't realise it was a paying one, she'd shopped in the supermarket and came back to find she had a fine for not purchasing a ticket.

Should she have refused to pay it?

Depends who issued the "fine". Was it a council or a private parking company (PPC)? If it was private, which company was it?

I think it was a Tesco one, as she'd never had to pay before in her local one naturally she never even thought she'd have to pay in this one.

Ironically she was on her way home and just popped in for a couple of items.
She paid up, just wish I'd known about this thread then as it was a few months ago.

I think because the store was in a tourist area, Southport, the store obviously didn't want tourist parking all day for free.
