Hehe. The down-side is that every movement risks an icy blast coming down under the bedclothes right when you don't want one. Hooray for down-filled duvets and electric blankets!0

!!!? Course it was! The anticipation mounting as the various layers are slowly stripped away........
You think we removed the layers? (apart from the tights of course)
:rotfl:We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Hello All,
Just thought I'd mention my personal situation here, purely as an illustration.
I haven't had heating or hot water for four years now, nor do I have fireplaces in my home.
I also suffer from Fibromyalgia, which makes it difficult or me to move about, and causes constant pain, exacerbated by cold.
As a home owning pensioner, naturally the problem falls to me to fix, but on my pension I cannot afford a new boiler, nor do I qualify for the Warn Front scheme, being just outside Pension Credit parameters.
I'm sitting in my bedroom, in coat and hat, sleeping bag and blankets, and I'm dreading going down to the kitchen to refill my hot water bottle and get some food.
Hypothermia is a definite possibility for me this year.
Cheers, HG0 -
gothic - that was me being friendly ! i dont mind that you disagreed with me - far from it... i did say i had exagerated things afer your intervention .....

well then I am sorry, I did not read it as friendly but that is clearly my fault.
So again sorry
* with regards to layers..There is nothing sexer then struggling with thermal underwear.Puts a totally different slant on an early night as you need the extra time just to get out of the stuff:rotfl:There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

Do you not get the winter fuel payment? surely this would cover the electricity bill to run heaters. Hot water not so much a problem. Have a shower fitted that heats the water up as it goes.0 -
escort -- if hellsgranny cannot afford to pay her fuel bills, how can she find the money to install a shower ? In any case... showering in an unheated room, even in warm water, is not at all easy, and not comfortable for someone who moves rather more slowly than you or i, and who is suffering from fybromyalgia.
Granny - have you contacted Aged Concern (or whatever they are called now that they have joined with Help The AGed) - there may be soem local charities that can help install some heating for you.
I know for example that in Bristol there are several charities which do just this.....
Please ask.. there are folks ready to help if only you can find them....
let us know how you get on.
I think Granny's post puts this thread into perspective, and puts us all to shame that her generation is sometimes in such poverty and us younger ones moan about just about everything....0 -

Perhaps she could sell one of her two houses she owned outright 12 months ago.
Or perhaps take some money back out from the equity release she invested a few months ago.
Also i presume she may be getting some money for dla in which case she could claim under the warm front rules.
i just feel some people choose to live the way they do. The winter fuel payment is there to stop old people freezing or worrying about bills.0 -

Whilst I do believe that landlords should be responsible for fixing problems like this ( which it sounds like is being done, all be it with agro) the idea that someone is going to freeze to death without heating is a touch over the top.
There are people on the OS forum that are doing without heathing and will survive the winter. Central heating is a new concept for human kind and we have managed without it for this long.
I do wish people would get some sense of reality..You would think that it spells the end of the human race the way some go on about it.
Even hot water on tap is a newish thing and still unheard of in many countrys.
-17 last night ...you foolIt is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

Hello Escort,
I still haven't managed to sell the house I'm in thank you, and that is the root of the problem. Bills on two houses and one pension rapidly prevent maintenance.
Or perhaps take some money back out from the equity release she invested a few months ago.
I didn't, they want houses in good condition.

I do not qualify for DLA.

The Winter Fuel Payment does not cover new boilers/Power showers, it is purely to help the elderly make the choice between paying for (already working) heating and eating.
Many home owning pensioners cannot afford to keep their homes in good condition, The second house is also in poor shape, but it is better suited to my needs. My main problem will be affording a remover.0
