A further question on Howden' Kitchens.

In an earlier post, it was mentioned that the carcasses are pre-aseembled Schreiber units. Does this include the draws ?

In MFI, I noticed that the hugena kitchens have the cheaper draws.

If a Hygena style was bought at Howdens with Schreiber carcasses, which draws do you get ?

Also, does anyone know if Howden do taller wall units >
MFI only appears to have a standard size wall unit

    Thanks

Many of Howdens kitchens are identical to MFI. We are buying the solid oak kitchen for 20 units, all lighting, sinks, taps and all finishings its costing £3000, the same quality kitchen in MFI is costing £7000 plus. I got pricing and design from both companies and couldn't believe the mark up.

BlondieE, Have they started your new kitchen yet? Did you go to Howden's yourselves or did you have to do it all through your builder? Were you able to see the units or were you only able to choose from a catalogue? Hope you don't mind all the questions but hubby is desperate for me to make a decision on which kitchen so that we can get things moving because our existing kichen is so awful

    Thanks

We were told that Howdens Joinery makes MFI kitchens and, apparently, you can order units from them & get them fitted by an independent kitchen fitter but I don't know how accurate this information is. Sorry I don't know any more than that about them.

    Details about Howdens here:
    http://www.mfigroup.co.uk/index.asp?d=news&s=1&p=http://www.mfigroup.co.uk/html/news/press-releases/041002_howdens-joinery-seminar.html

Do a search for Howdens Joinery on yell.com to find one near you.

Any fitter/builder can open an account with them (as they only supply to trade). But, you can also go into one of their warehouses and speak to a designer who will draw up plans and 3D models. As others have said, they are the same as MFI kitchens, but cheaper (and you can always haggle with your fitter/builder over the price paid for units).
Does anyone know anything about Keller Kitchens?

You don't live near Altrincham do you? Anyway, Keller info here: http://www.kellerkitchensaltrincham.co.uk/

From what I know, Keller are a good firm, and very reasonably priced too. The only downside can be the lead times for unit manufacture/delivery as they are made in Holland. And if any bits don't fit you can be waiting a long time for replacements.

    Hope this helps

    Darryl.

Darryl, Thanks for all the info, it was extremely helpful.

We live near Cardiff (not Altrincham :) ) and there is a Keller Kitchens near us. We have now been there and the two men who are partners in the business (I assume from your info that it must be some sort of franchise?) have been very helpful. They will hopefully get a quote to us by the end of the week, though I suspect it is going to be quite expensive. Which brings us back to kenshaz's original post - is the quality so superior that it warrants double the price? I think I will lay all the quotes out, close my eyes and stick a pin in one of them!

I've just had a look & there are 2 Howdens Joinery near us so we'll probably go along on Saturday & have a look.

    Thanks again

We're also in the market for a new kitchen. Today we went to Ikea and they have computers there that you can sit and design your kitchen how you like. Quite an easy program to use. You plug your kitchen sizes in then drag and drop the units in where you like. You can change the colours and styles, and also see what the kitchen will look like in 3D.

Well I've just found out. They offer this program as a free download. You can sit at home and have a go at designing your kitchen. Print out the plan or 3D view if you like. Very handy little freebie this!

For anyone interested, you can find the program HERE

Even if you're not planning to buy at Ikea. You can use this first to give you a better idea of how it will end up looking like.

With the program for everything you select to go into it. You can keep a track on the prices. The prices that come with it are valid untill the 8th July.

    Deedums & Murfer007,

I went through a friend who owns his own company. They deal with trade only but I went with the business account number. They have displays in Howdens of the kitchens - most of them are sold in MFI. The prices are much better though. We chose solid oak with high gloss worktops. MFI were more than double the cost. Earlier when I queried Howdens on this website someone advised you can go direct to Howdens and tell them you are starting off property developing and they would give you the discount - I'm not sure if this would work but it is worth a try.

Howdens sent someone out to measure and design the kitchen and I went into there offices with any changes I wanted to make. They also recommended the kitchen fitters who were extremely reasonably priced. The work starts here on Monday and fitters say it should be completed in 2/3 days. I will post a message on here and let you know how things work out.

Good luck with your plans - its hellish - my hubby was also going mad that I couldn't make a decision on where to buy from we had B&Q, MFI, Ikea, and a few kitchen companies give us quotes....so I know exactly how your feeling!!!
