There are so many different brands of screen wash out there and even "concentrated" can vary significantly in terms of effectiveness and dilution ratios.

I had a bad experience with Tesco 'concentrate' screenwash which froze on the spray nozzles during a motorway journey in January :o

May be an idea if people posted feedback on various brands so we know which ones are effective & good value and which ones to stay away from.

I'll start off by saying that Homebase Screen Wash (concentrate) was brilliant. The summer dilution was about 1:10 if I remember rightly and the winter was about 1:4. A 2.5L bottle lasted 3 years.

Tesco Screen Wash (concentrate) was less impressive and poorer value in my view - dilution was 1:4 in the summer and 1:2 or 1:1 in the winter and I found it was not as good at cleaning road grime/squished insects from the windscreen during motorway journeys.

Has anyone tried Carplan or Halfords? If you've tried other brands please post below with your comments :)

Edited to add the Auto Express Screenwash Tests.

  • last year i got a winter kit from aldi, it came with a tny bottle of screenwash that i dismissed as rubbish until i used it. how wrong could i have been, it was brilliant, tiny amount mixed with water and it didn't freeze up as quickly as others and it defrosted quicker aswell, this was last winter with below average temperatures so all in all it was great.

it also came with a microfibre cloth, a scraper and some de icer, the de icer came in a spray bottle, not aerosol. i still have half of it left this year as it takes very little of it to clear your window.

the cloth and scraper have went missing though.

i'll be keeping an eye out for it again this year.

ive got some comma stuff this year i got from work for nothing and its been good so far,but im sure theres colder than -4 to come yet to test it out.

I use Lidl concentrate but it is only available as a special buy so I stock up. -40c neat. Smells nice. I also put it into a trigger spray for de-icing, much cheaper. Suitable for VW fanjets as well.

I normally use carplan stuff and found it okay. But now using Halfords own concenrate and found it very good and cleaning muck and not iced up yet despite snow/frost past few days

I recommend it for now. I got two on BOGOF a few months back

Euro Car Parts advertise it as Carplan but it's actually Autocare which is not as concentrated as Carplan.
