National tyres are now charging £1.50 to dispose of old oil

I was looking to book my car for an oil and filter change online and are quite digusted that they have now added an extra £1.50 to dispose of old oil. This is a new sneaky way to make money!

tell them to put the old oil in a bottle for you and flush it down the toilet when you get home! (why are you looking at me like that? isn't that what everyone does!?)

I'd say it was more about transparent pricing..... It costs money to dispose of used oil, but normally it's not itemised in the bill.
Just ask for the old oil back and take it to your local tip if you want to save the £1.50......
Although to be honest I wouldn't touch em with a barge pole, they're worse than crapfit, the only reason they haven't been on watchdog is because they had the program pulled before it was aired (expensive lawyer's).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

So National Tyres charge you, and then they get paid by the waste oil carrier. Nice! The man without a signature.0

I guess they have to pay to dispose of it, so pass it onto you rather than put up the price of an oil change.0

Ask them to bottle it and give it back to you. Leave it on their reception door step the following day. Frugal and sneaky, the best type.0

The thing is this charge is very recent as they never had this before. The price of oil & filter change were previously just that, businesses have always factor in all costs and give a price, in this case inclusive of oil disposal. I have used them many times for oil change and their service for that has been good, but this is another way to make extra money. If an oil disposal site is on my way back then I would get rid of it myself simply because I dont like this practise and also save a few pennies, but I guess I would pay this as oil change price has been good value.0

How times have changed, my local village garage used to have a huge oil burning heater that kept them all warm burning waste engine oil.0

That's interesting to hear - how did you find that out?0 -
It may be new for National Tyres, but it's certainly not new in itself.0

How bizarre I can find no references to it anymore.... It came up around the time that watchdog aired the kwikfit program. Lots of people mentioned it, there were lots of references to it online too... Hmmm...
Edit, it was Nationwide Autocentres, they're all as bad though.
Here's a reference on these forums. I think Pistonheads and another forum had the same info.

It was National that cost me a fortune on my last car when they told me my suspension was buggard. I then had to get the whole lot replaced AGAIN because the parts fitted were of poor quality, they made the car oversteer like a b!tch and if was like driving a boat into a corner.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
