Buying a bed off Ebay..??

Options
Im looking to buy a new bed, a divan with a pocket sprung and memory foam mattress ideally.

On Ebay these seem to go for around the £350 mark for a UK made bed from a seller with good feedback. Has anyone bought a bed from an ebayer seller and if so were you happy?

I looked at a similar bed in Dreams and it cost £650 for their own brand, im guessing they are probably re-badged versions of what you can buy for half the price on ebay!

If anyone can suggest anything else for under £600 I would be grateful!

Go for it, probably be fine. Question them if you have concerns.

I picked up a decent single pine bed frame for my daughter off ebay. Nice Laura Ashley one, auction ended at £70, probably would have been about £500-600 new! Bargain tastic.

I think I will go for it you know, the features seem to be just the same as the dreams own brand one but at half the price :-) My Argos bed has been fine for the last three years so Im not against buying a lower priced bed.
I'll check out Tesco direct too, cant knock earning a few extra club card points!

As for the big supermarkets and places like Argos. They don't tend to sell quality beds. They just sell big brands that I would strongly advise against anyway.

If I were you I would stay away from big brand names and big chain stores if you want good quality at a low price, and shop on line from a seller who gives a proper satisfaction guarantee that allows you to actually unpack and sleep on the mattress. This way it is in their interest to make sure that you make the right choice the first time.

Superb stuff Tim, many thanks indeed!

I understand you are unable to suggest a good bed to me but could you please advise me on minimum spec I should look for?

The choices seem to be 1000, 1200 or 1500 pocket springs. Which should I go for?

How thick should the memory foam be? Some of them seem to have 50 mm memory foam and the rest another type of foam.

Also, any preference on 10 or 12 inch thick matresses?

Sorry for all the questions! :T

Anywhere between 1000 and 1800 pocket springs is fine, as long as they are full size steel pocket springs, and not the smaller and less supportive reflex foam encapsulated type.

The memory foam should be 2" deep, with a density of 60 to 70kg per m3.

I personally wouldn't go for the reflex foam and memory foam type, as these can be very warm, and don't give as good support as those containing pocket springs.

I'd say go for a mattress at least 10" deep, but a two sided one will most likely be deeper.

    Thanks Tim

This is what im looking at
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DOUBLE-4-6-FT-BED-END-DRAWER-MEMORY-FOAM-POCKET-SPRING-/280590862505?pt=Beds_Mattresses&hash=item415484c8a9

It has 1000 springs and 50 mm memory foam and 50mm reflex foam. Will this be quite hot or is it mainly the only fully foam ones which get a bit toasty?

    Last question I promise :j

I can't understand why they have a 50mm layer of reflex foam, as this will make it hot. It makes me wonder if the springs are reflex foam encapsulated

You must be joking. £125 for a bottom of the range budget king size mattress mattress that you can feel the springs through.

They charge a 5% admin fee for returns under DSR's, which is illegal.

And they don't allow you to unpack and sleep on the mattress, and then return it.

However I've only seen one negative thread about them on MSE, and that doesn't have many posts: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2394757
