JSA and Snow

My OH works for JCP and their policy is - if the buses aren't running/roads are blocked because of the snow then walk to your nearest office. In his case it's about 3 miles away but he will be expected to do it!
Thankfully we live on a main road in a large city so he has never had any problems (and won't this year touch wood!).
His advice - call them and tell them you will be late and why - but walk it!0 -
Im in a similar boat, however im on my 4th month of claiming.
I live 16 miles from my nearest office so walking is out of the question. Several of the roads have been closed, the buses suspended so im going to call in the morning and see what is suggested.
Im assuming it will be a postal sign, or perhaps for me to just go in as soon as I can when the roads are clear.0 -
Let us stop looking on genuine Job-Seekers as scroungers; didn't we pay taxes and pay into the system? I paid into the system and so did my parents and family and have taken nothing out of it, so I've already paid and deserve any help I get, so let's not think of ourselves as scroungers when we have already paid for anything we are getting!
Also, many of us are victims of the system; we can't force employers to take us on, there just aren't enough jobs.0 -
Its about helping people get their entitlement! Not about benefits policy!
This board is here for help and support for those on or looking to claim benefits, not for judgement.
Seems like a few people have forgotten this.

Gawd i noticed that this site has gone very downhill due to the lack, of advice and help,
and looking at the comms most people seem to take the attitude 'im alright jack' haha..
What a load of rubbish - 4 hour walk in minus temps has nobody heard of hypothermia?????
You should all be ashmaed of yourselves - and i wish all of you a miserable xmas..
And to the OP just ring them they really wont expect you to go in, they are contrary to what these people say - helpful.0 -
op how did you get on ? i really hope you didn't have to walk this, my 20 min trip each way to collect my boys from school took me near on 3 hours yesterdayDebt free
Married 15/02/14:D0 -
Walk if they say you have to go in. With the snow at present I know of staff members where I work walking 2 hours each way or more for far less than JSA.0

If you do walk, make sure the Jobcentre is open!! It might have shut because of the snow.!!0
