I didn't say they are always a success. I was addressing the assertion that there aren't enough jobs out there. There are plenty if you are willing to look/ adapt your style of approach, and/ or create your own opportunities.FleetFanatic wrote: »You must work in sales/marketing, to post mumbo jumbo that has no substance.
You must be one of those who moan and groan about there "being no jobs"The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0 -
The job I am currently in is expanding and looking for about another 20 staff. We have advertised for 10 positions and would you believe we not had *1* person apply so far and the advert was put up last Wed
It's not as if the job is bad either and it pays 16k approx working 9-5 with no weekends.
I do think some people are a little to picky, some are just terrible at interviews and other are just plain unlucky in my view (aka someone doing a better interview)0 -
Here a job I'd jump on

Good salary (imo) and doesn't look like you need lots of Qualifcations
They are out there you just need to look at what your willing to do
Students - I agree - It's harder to get jobs0 -

You suggest I'm one of those "don't want to get a job & make excuses" types? We'll go back to that in a moment.
There's plenty of jobs out there, unfortunately there's more unemployed than actual jobs. Now when the government boasts of there being half a million jobs on their website alone, maybe they would like to discount those that are 10 hours a week cleaning, or 4 hours on a Sunday. Those sort of jobs help nobody with a family. I have 4 children, do you think those sort of jobs are any good for me?
If you go back a page or two, you'll see I am applying for plenty of jobs. Experience in the field I apply for hasn't helped, when I apply outside that field it seems I have even less chance, despite a lot of my experience & skills being transferable.
And my grammar school education means nothing.
Would I do part-time? Yes, as long as it's over 24 hours, seeing as the working tax credit hours rules change in a few months - not to mention the levels for housing benefit being cut.
Never mind, at this rate, Cameron will have me working on one of his unemployed chain gangs next year. No doubt a load of companies (owned by fellow Tories) will spring up to 'supply' the unemployed (charging the taxpayer a fee for this in the process), despite the government already knowing who we are by having to sign on at a jobcentre.
I am making every effort to find a job, through jobsites, recruitment agencies (who I find truly awful), specific company websites, & adhoc 'on spec' enquiries. So I make no apology for being unemployed, just like the company that made me redundant after 15 years made no apology.Fog on The Tyne isn't mine all mine... but if I wanted it, I'd want it with a discount code.0 -

err no.
Strikes me that some people are set in their way of thinking, and won't change for anything. A little change in mndset can work wonders. Try it.The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0 -

I start a new job on Monday, having been out of work for the last 2 months. I have also had other periods of unemployment, claimed benefits, worked for myself, small companies, big companies, both in part time and full time capacities. Believe me, I know how hard the job market is. My point however, is that is is not AS hard as yourself and some others are implying.Person_one wrote: »Are you aware that you're being very patronising?
No, since I'm not. Every one of your posts strikes me as a complaint of some kind. Since I have direct experience of this topic, and an opinion, I shall exercise the right to utilize them. If you don't like that, I would question why you are posting on an open forumThe only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing0 -

The job is for videoconferencing tuition based at home. I am not allowed to advertise it here.0 -

I can see where you are coming from. When I worked in a Jobcentre I noticed that some jobs would be socked in with applications while others would be in double figures. The best example of this would be a high street bank taking on counter staff, as they were needed so regulary (and still are!) there would a stock advert saying the same thing refreshed every month. Sometimes it would clock 200 applications, sometimes 20.
Security,Administration and Care jobs are still out there and there seem to be more jobs around all of a sudden (and its not Xmas). I know of firms that are taking on a whole load of staff. Its not to difficult to find a job, its a lot harder to find a job you would like to do.
THose who are sending hundreds and hundreds of applications just stop. Find a job you could do, read the job advert and person specification and match your application to them exactly. That way you will get more interviews.
I have seen with my own eyes ex-employment agency staff come into my workplace, grab a cup of coffee, open a yellow pages and start cold calling. They come up with a load of old flim to charm these employers but they end the morning with 5-6 unadvertised jobs to put people forward for.
Be cheeky, don't write anything off or out and be flexible and you should be OK.
PS If you have the wherewithal to pay for a security SIA License (around £400) then there is little doubt you will get a jobThe World come on.....0
