In the are we are currently in, when a house came on the market, you would see a SOLD board up within a week pretty much without fail, now the same houses I walk past every day still have the FOR SALE up that has been there for months.
I would have said exactly this until a month or two ago, but recently houses have started selling a lot faster in my area of Cardiff (Whitchurch). It's not quite as mad as 2004 when houses were selling in the first day or two, but recently a mid-terrace in our street went on the market for £225,000 and was sold a week later, which surprised me. Which bit of Cardiff are you in mi-key?.0

In north Kingston-Upon-Thames period properties (houses and maisonettes) are snapped up very quickly - unless they are hugely over-priced.
The thing with that poll is that it won't provide a particularly useful picture, since it doesn't break the situation down into areas.0

My recent experience is very similar to Cattie's..I have a friend who is looking for a flat around New Cross / Brockley way in South East London. She reports that properties are flying out of the EA's doors so fast they're not even getting a chance to list them on their websites. She has told me tales of 'block viewings' - just like they do with auctions and people 'bidding' for properties..especially small flats. Supply and demand appear to be out of synch..and I am getting lots of Estate Agents leaflets through my door..More than I can remember at any time in the past.0
