Hi Kimmywim, I wanted to send you a PM but I'm not sure how. I have 10 or so punch balloons that are unused and were left over from my daughters party. We had 20 of them but I put 2 teaspoons of rice inside 10 of them and the kids absolutely loved them. They have elsatic bands on the top to allow the kids to 'punch' away.

If you want to please email me your address and I will send them to you with a few bits and pieces I have left over. Our daughter turned 3 in August and everything has been in the cupboard...think I have 3/4 unused party bags not sure if that would be of use to you. We used a Happy Birthday Banner but it was really long so we ended up cutting into 3....will also send this.

About the cake....if there are grandparents or close friends perhaps you could ask them to make a cake instead of bringing a presentt?

Try not to worry. I can definitely post the party goodies to you tomorrow if you like. It's really not a problem at all.

That's really nice of you. I would, however, advise against rice in punch balloons, since in my experience it seems to make them more inclined to burst. Lentils may be better, then you wouldn't have pointy ends as with rice grains.

If you have some used cards, birthday, xmas, post or even piccies torn fom a mag you can cut them in half and put one side round the party room and give the other to each child as they arrive. They then hunt for their half. As they're only 2 I wouldn't hide them too well but leave them peeking out from under cushions etc. A good starter game for when children are arriving at different times.

I did a treasure hunt when my daughter was quite small. Draw pictures of places where the next clue is,eg a bath, the back door, a large toy, the sofa etc. Show the first 1 to the children and ask "what's this?" "where do you think you'll find that" and then they'll go together and find the next picture with you and any accompanying adults. For the last one, the treasure, I covered a large cake tin in tin foil and filled it with choc gold coins and asked them to take some each.

Pass the parcel and sleeping lions for after tea when you don't want them running around too much.

Party bags were one novelty crayon/ animal soap/ cracker type toy all taken from sets bought cheaply plus some sweets. At 2 they won't have any expectations of what a party should be anyway.

I never spent much on parties and made little cakes with the name or initial of each child plus some jelly in an old rabbit mold with green jelly chopped up for grass around it.

  • You could make a cake using a cake mix from Asda for under £1.00 it doesn't need to be iced, just stick a packet of smarties and other little soft sweets on top. 2 loaves of bread should make enough sandwiches to feed the thousdands - egg mayo is a favourite as is jam - jelly costs very little. a few packet of crisps in a bowl- frozen sausage rolls - you could go even cheaper and do a few tims of hot dogs in bread rolls -

Party prizes - search the house for nearly new toys, wrap in layers of newspaper and a layer of wrapping paper.

LOts of dancing, musical statues with a bag of sweets as prices.

Don't feed the adults, it's a childrens party, they will be able to eat all the chilren's sandwiches that are left over.

It will be a fantastic party, you can do it on £20.
  • Oh i have a webiste - off to find it, they have stickers and stuff for 25p and loads of bits and bats for party bags - hang on its funkydawn or something

    http://www.funkydorypartybags.co.uk/

Great site and cheaper than the shops.

Kimmy... you do know that we'll want a full rundown of this party! I expect it to go like this....

The day went really well, everyone left drunk and full up, the children had a wonderful time, everyone was really happy and I still have £19.47 left to spend! :D

I hope you feel a LOT better than you did when you wrote the Opening Post.

How about some hotdogs instead of usual sandwiches crisps etc.Think tesco have hotdog rolls on bogof at moment.
Dont bother with a birthday cake make individual fairy cakes...Very cheap as is jelly and value icecream.Value coke and lemonade thats kids fed and any adults do them burgers.
Poundland have wondrous things for a quid great for pass the parcel to pass time.Musical statues.
For goodie bag how about a fairy cake, bubble mix, couple of penny sweets or 5p lolly and a few cheap pens from poundland will stretch between a few bags .
    Reckon £20 will do this.

  • When I was little (not that many years ago...) my parents were renovating a house and had rubble and muddy trenches everywhere on my birthday. They couldn't afford to have the party elsewhere or spend much on it and so decided on a 'tramps' theme where everyone had to look as scruffy as possible (so no damaged party clothes) and we had old fashioned games (including apple bobbing, pass the parcel and the game where you have to dress up and eat as much chocolate as possible before the next person throws a six) which cost next to nothing and had sweets as prizes. I reckon this could easily be adapted to a halloween or firework night theme. Instead of party bags we had home-made toffee apples and chocolate cakes with each childs name iced on the top which cost next to nothing but were really tasty and the adults appreciated the effort my mum had put in. You could use sweets from a muti-pack as an alternative.

If you buy a couple of frozen pizza's in Lidl's, make a big mound of sandwiches (cut into nice shapes for the children), make a couple of bowls of rice/pasta salad, buy or make a big pot of dip and add some crisps and vegetable sticks I think you will easily come under budget and everyone will be happy. As birthday cakes are so expensive you could make one, or, if this is difficult you could hang around the cake section of Tesco's for a couple of evenings beforehand. I've seen £9.99 birthday cakes reduced to £1.00 with a couple of days between the sell by and use by dates so it should still be alright. In fact my other half has been known to take this to work for his lunch as it's cheaper than normal cake...

    Good Luck!
