As some people have suggested I would not focus on the dla but look to get the issue addressed. Being told you are too young at 44 is complete tosh. Consultants are reluctant to do it at this age due to the repeat surgeries that have to be done later on. On repeat operations at the moment the chances of things going wrong are higher. I am 40 and require an op and was tuned down but this was due to my other significant health issues, not due to my age. I was offered one with the caveat that it wil almost definitely go wrong and you might die...understandably I didn't pursue this route.
As an alternative, if you don't manage to get this try TENS on your hip. I cannot tolerate pain relief but this does work really well for me. I was very cynical to start off with but now working really well. Got a trial from my hospital pain team (again, possibly consider a referral here?). If you are interested the best place to get them from is;

It is really difficult to get dla these days on a fresh claim. You should get DIAL or CAb to help you complete the form, for best result. Even then, no guarantee of success.
But I agree with those who advise you to focus on the problem rather than on the money.0 -
You need to give them a good overall picture of daily life, and one would assume with the disability you have you can't much of anything without pain - fill it in and explain how bad it is.

Whilst it's obvious to you, it's not obvious to the person reading your forms what issues you have. Therefore, you need to explain it detail the issues you have.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Their is NO evidence to suggest that DLA has become harder to get,half the time the problem lies with the applicant who doesnt give enough information,or is to positive about their situation(which for most is human nature)0 -

Earlier this year i had a bad leg so went to the docs and was told it was probs arthritis and told to take ibuprofen. My condition did not improve infact it got worse so i went back and had an xray which confirmed mild arthritis in my hips. The gp then sent me to a specialist who said i would need my hip replacing (left hip) but i was too young yet and should go back to my gp for painkillers and he would see me in ten years for an op! The doc gave me paracetemol but after two weeks of bad pain i went back and got some naproxen. I also take co-codamol most days and have permanent pain. I walk with a permanent limp and cannot walk anywhere without pain. For that matter i am constantly in pain even with the drugs.I walk as little as possible due to this.
I applied for DLA and was refused so i appealed and was refused again ,I am now appealing again. I dont claim sickness benefit or anything else and dont think i am putting the correct things on the form.can anyone give me some advice as to what i should be doing?
Hello
I know that people are different and that the same condition affects people in different ways.
But to be serious, you have been diagnosed with mild arthritis of the hips, yet the consultant diagnosed the left hip only.
Do you not realise, that there are many many people out there with arthritis more severe than what you are complaining of?
Let's say that you had it in your neck, both sholders, both wrists, most fingers (that are say now deformed), both hips, both knees and most of the toes, would you consider that to be more serious and disabling?
If so, even with that amount of arthritis and disability, it is unlikely that you would be entitled to DLA!
OK you find walking painful, so do a lot of others. The best form of treatment for arthritis is exercise, NOT putting your feet up! Read up on the subject and ask your GP. Get your legs moving daily, if need be take some more paracetamol, and walk through the pain. It does become easier the more exercise that you carry out.
I am not at all surprised that your claim was dismissed!!
To argue that you are disabled is in a way an insult to those that actually are!0 -

The OP stated that they're in constant pain. OP - drugs like naproxen aren't that strong. I was on it for two weeks - it did nothing (apart from give me a constant feeling of wanting to be sick) for me at all.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
