  • I say go for! I'm all excited for you at the moment! :j I spent a 18 months travelling and loved it. I'm hoping to go to Uni next year and after that I fancy spending another year abroad with my OH. True you have the same problems but its amazing what a fresh experience does for your perspective.

One thing i'd say wherever you go is persevere and any jobs better than no job. When I was in Australia 5 years ago there was a real shortage of jobs for travellers, there were lots of people who could not find work and ended up spending all there savings and going home. I went into every hotel, shop, restaurant, agency etc till I found something. A job that just manages to cover your costs without you dipping into savings may not be what your looking for but it gives you breathing space and when your not in a state of panic you become a much more attractive employee for those better roles.

I read a a book called work your way around the world, its aimed at working holiday makers but is really inspirational when it comes to giving you ideas, it also contains great info on red-tape etc. I'd highly recommend it. I cannot read it now as I'd want to sell all my belongings and run! If your still interested in Cabin Crew how about Gulf Air? They are based in Bahrain, I think they do a similar deal to Emirates, not sure how they feel bout partners though..

  • Just wanted to add to the encouragement to pack your bags and go! Mr CF and I are in our 30's and we are currently living in NZ (from Scotland originally). You are young enough to qualify for Working Holiday Visas in both Oz and NZ, which will give you 1/2 years to see if you like life down under. Long term, it's generally much more difficult to get residency in OZ than NZ, so if it does appeal start checking out your immigration options early on. Only warning is that you would be well advised to have some 'ready money' at your disposal when you head off with your backpacks - there are no guarantees when casual jobs will come up, or how much they will pay.

Also, if you end up back in the UK in a couple of years don't look at is as a failure on your part - it's just part of life's rich tapestry. Nothing is permanent if you don't want it to be. Oz / NZ / UK aren't going anywhere fast - they will be around for some time to come if your plans don't work out this time round!
  • Thanks CF I'm not 100% my skills would be needed in OZ though is there much call fo retail managers???

We're defo going to do something but I'm like a kid picking sweeties at the shop so many countries to see and I really want to see Hamilton Island in OZ sounds like heaven on earth.

Wee quick Thanks Guys all your support and saying yeah go for it makes me happier just at the thought of it(Not been happy for a while!)

  • At the end of the day the worst thing that will happen will be that you may have to come back to Britain with nothing, live with your parents for a bit and get a job, which I am sure wouldn't be a problem as you both sound very hard working. And you will have had a fantastic experience with lods of memories!
If this is really what you want maybe you should go for it, as if you don't you may both regret not doing it?

Thanks, i now work 3 days a week as a gardener (quıte a change from the Metropolitan Police!!) and have an apartment which i lease out, prospects are great here(will be even better if Turkey get in the EU).On reflection over the last year my prioritıes have changed completley, once i was obsessed with the latest clothes, sports car etc
Put it like this, prior to making the move i said that i'd only consider moving back to the UK if the right woman came into my life, but now?, No i'll never live in the UK again, escape while you can. Good luck
  • TToli you sound like you are so happy!

  • Hi guys thought I'd do a wee update well I'm feeling mighty amount better,

I do still want to go abroad but hubby is not as keen as he was. Said maybe when we're older for retirement thats ok though as, I realised it was work that was making me so unhappy and the area we live in is rough as a wee badgers bum so we've decided to sell the house if we do this we can move to a better area ok bigger mortgage but nicer surrondings.

The great thing about moving is we can pay our debts off with the equity in the house. Plus still have a £10k deposit, for the new house.

I have also applied for loads of jobs as my company is horrid and going down the pan quickstyley! As some of you know going for an interview next week which is very very exciting as its a massive hike in my basic and better conditions.

I'm going to use this wee thread to update you all if anyone is interersted!

But thank you all for your support and advice.

Trust me will get abroad at least for a year!!!!
