Looking at oz I can work for a year there no language discrimination problems there so thats very appealling but where in oz???

Sydney is mental to rent quite fancy the touristy areas we would get at least bar work although by the looks of it they need retail managers!!! :)

I live in London but I'm from NZ so kind of doing it in reverse to you! Renting in Sydney is fine, I've got plenty of friends who live there and didn't have any trouble finding a place to stay. Obviously if you're looking at apartments on the harbour the rents are exorbitant but the suburbs are fine.

You don't automatically need to head for Sydney either - Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide are all decent sized cities and should have ok job markets.

I'd suggest you find a decent chat forum and ask for specific advice about the place you're most interested in.
  • I'm getting really excited now just need to decide where to go...

Thanks all for your advice x

  • if i didn't have 2 sprogs i'd be right there with you.
  • I know I'm all about the drama in the headline !!!

But right now thats how I am feeling I am miserable

I'm at a point were I am unhappy in my job.
I hate the City we live in.
I want to go work abroad before its too late but I dont know where to start I need a new start in life.

I always wanted to travel and see the world

Dubai looks excellent if I could head out there tax free living plus solves' one massive problem with my debts too If I sell my house I can use my equity to pay off my debts and still have about £10k spare.

    Am I mad?

Me and my hubby are in our mid 20's we have a whole life in front of us so If this is a mistake and wee screw up abroad we still have time to fix anything that could possibly happen we could start again if we needed to come back to Blighty.

Can anyone give me advice do you think it is "running away" from my problems ? Or a new start?

it is possible to do anything if you put your mind to it. if this is what you really want, and you have considered all the options then go for it, before something happens (eg you lose your health) that will prevent you from doing it.

How about doing teaching? If you do a TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) course you can go to loads of places. I have friends teaching in Kuwait, China, Peru, Turkey. One has been doing it since graduation, but the others went into it late 20s/early 30s. You'll never be out of work.
If it's what you want to do, do it now, while you can. I worked in several countries & learnt a lot whilst having great fun.
Melbourne is supposed to be *amazing* if you're headed in that direction, bit more laid back than Sydney.

Hi, my big sis returned from a holiday yesterday to Melbourne. Her and her hubby are thinking about emigrating with their 2 small kids and decided a holiday was a good idea to see more of the place. She phoned this a.m. and is already depressed at being back home. They went for a month and loved every minute of it.

My uncle also emigrated there (Brisbane) 40 odd years ago and when he's home here (Scotland) he realises what he has in comparison to us. I have thought about it too and if my sister and hubby get in I think i will consider it aswell. (I'm a nurse and shouldn't have a problem being accepted)

I say to you to go for it!!! You're young and if it does'nt work then you come back. It's that simple.... We also have a friend who was fed up and she went on her own to Sydney and has now been there 2 years with no intention of coming back here to live.

Good luck with your decision but deep down you know the answer - just listen!
