Another vote for mount and blade on the PC.
As for knowing if your PC can play it, if it's less than 3 years old, and was pretty good when you bought it, the likelyhood is yes it can. Especially if it's a game that also came out on consoles.
Basically, since new PC's are a generation or two ahead of consoles, anything playable on a console should work fairly well even on an older PC.
Just to confirm, another vote for mount and blade here (will run on very old pc's, but you may have to turn some settings down).
It's a medieval rpg, open ended, no focused story, but in essence you're trying to take over the world. You start off very weak, and grow to being a leader of thousands. I'd suggest immediately downloading the Native expansion mod and not bothering with the normal game. There are hundreds of well developed mods to extend the playing time.0 -
Have you given Dragon Age: Origins a go -picked that up myself, ditched it after a few hours but on going back to it got quickly into it and stuck with it with near-addiction amounts of time going in till the end of it.0

Also big advantage of PC over xbox is if you wait a while all the slightly older games come out 60-70% off after 6-12 months so cost of games is alot lower...0

Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0
