A good few months ago I started playing Oblivion and I've played it continuously since then. To me it's almost perfect, a few niggles, but it holds together as a package brilliantly.
But I was getting a little tired of it and had completed most quests, so I looked for something else.
Fable 2, played an hour, will never play again. Didn't want to try Fable 3 after playing 2.
Going on reviews I bought Dragon Quest (the new extended one with all the downloads, as it was the best value). I've been playing for an hour and............... I don't know, maybe I have been spoilt with Oblivion, but it seems boring. The combat is boring, the talking is sometimes amusing, but boring, it's like watching an animated book.
The combat in Oblivion is great, 1st person and tactics really matter, these others seem, to be quite frank, crap.
Am I being fair and what do I do now, go back to Oblivion, or is there something else I should be looking at?

Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

It depends on what you are into IMO but I would highly recommend BioShock 1 and 2, and maybe even the Mass Effect games. RPG's are always hit and miss depending on what you enjoy, and by the sounds of things, you went from the top and are now working down haha. But Bioshock are good and the story is also amazing.
Maybe the Fallout series too? Not played the new one myself yet but they come highly rated!

I do like the swords and sorcery type game. I may be stuck with Oblivion for some time!Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
As suggested the Fallout games are good, some people refer to them as 'Oblivion with guns!' I;ve got both Fallout 3 & New Vegas and both come highly recommended!Useful is beautiful0

I like 1st person shooters and role playing games. Wait a few weeks after release, and you'll find them on Ebay for next to nothing!0

You could subscribe to a rental service; I use Boomerang - http://www.boomerangrentals.co.uk/
It's a cheap way of trying games - if you don't like it you can send it back.Offical MSE Fantasy League Member :footie:0 -
Check out your local library, mine hires out games for £2 per wk... Also check the bargain/pre owned section of your local game shop, you can pick up some cracking games for about a fiver.Sealed Pot challenge - member No. 1023 :j0

Another vote for Fallout 3 and New Vegas
Great games, using the same 3D/physics engine as Oblivion.
P.S. Nothing beats some of the views in Oblivion though, standing on top of some of the mountains and looking out.....wow!0 -
I assume you've played the Oblivion expansion Shivering Isles? If not, get it.
Fallout 3 and New Vegas are both very good, although I think Fallout 3 is ever so slightly better. You might also like Borderlands, Fable, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed or just take up WoW on the PC and never look back.0 -

I'll have a look at Fallout 3 and New Vegas, thanks to those of you that suggested them.I assume you've played the Oblivion expansion Shivering Isles? If not, get it.

I tend to like my PC's to stay non game machines these days and although it's probably heresy, I don't like the look of WoW.
I just don't like all 3rd person games.
I haven't got the expansion for Oblivion yet, I am in the process of looking for one. That was going to be my fall backFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I had the exact same thing. Oblivion was my first ever RPG game and I absolutely loved it - I played for months and months and did almost everything including the expansion. I then had the same issue, tried Fable, Morrowind, Dragon Age, and a large number of others but nothing really grabbed me for more than an hour or so, they are all lacking in some way compared to Oblivion.
Anyway I bought a £5 copy of wow a couple of years ago for my son and although I too hated the cartoony look, in a moment of boredom I installed it on my pc and in 30 min was totally hooked.
You very soon forget the look (and the whole world in wow underwent a huge update yesterday) because the gameplay is just so totally immersive. The world is vast, fascinating to explore, and ever-changing. If you can pick up or download a free trial, I can almost guarantee you'll be hooked if you stick it past lvl 10 (which is where the game opens up a bit - couple of hours playing).
I've since tried Aion, Age of Conan, LOTRO and a few others and still come back to Wow and Oblivion as the 2 I love the most.0
