Just for information - the internet banking site of the Post Office has been down since yesterday.
Your login procedure will take you so far and then it will report a "systems failure"

It allowed me in OK just a moment ago. No problems with it yesterday either.
  • Thanks for posting - I am now able to access it - there was definitely a problem.

  • Hmmm... not sure if it is 100% fixed - when moving from one page of transaction to the next, the following message came up:
    System down

We are currently experiencing some technical difficulties with our site

System Down (as above) for me now too. Hmm don't like the fact you can get in initially, then try to do anything and it sort of shuts you out without needing to log out, then invites you either to re-enter or phone.
  • It seemed fine early this morning but I got the "system down" message a few minutes ago. I am sure it will be fixed soon but could be a hassle for some folks who need to transfer money.

Same here, OK just after I posted. I need to transfer a bigish sum in but obviously with the BH delays I shall leave it until there will be minimal delay. If it is still dodgy after the BH it will go to somewhere else reliable.

I have only just realised that monthly interest is credited to the account. I should have checked the T&Cs before. I could transfer the interest out every month I suppose. Still the interest has been earned and will not lose any more than the few days a BACS transfer takes for interest paid out as I had expected, I guess.

I like the option of having the monthly interest and it would be possible to transfer it out each month to your nominated account. It is not a big deal losing a small amount of interest on amounts being transferred. If you are happy to use the account for saving money rather than operating it any other way, then the account is fine. As far as not having access to faster payments, if you are prepared to think ahead and transfer out money a few days before it is required then you should be fine.
I use the PO account as an emergency savings account, a pot for holiday money and place to put money for annual bills such as road tax, TV licence, insurance etc.

Yes I too I wanted another accessible, almost instant access account once my Barnsley Online 0.5% bonus went on 31/12/10. That is still a decent 2.47% gross for monthly, but of course the PO account is nearly the 2.96% the Barnsley account was at 2.87%. Just checking I can move money from Barnsley to PO with a £1 trial.

That should be possible. I have a simple bank account with Barclay's so that I can have access to their on-line banking. In order to keep the Barclay's account "alive" I set up a monthly transfer of a small sum (£20) from my current account (not a Barclay's account) to my Barclay's bank account and then a transfer for the same amount .from my Barclay's bank account to my PO account. I used the Barclay's on-line system to set up the transfer.
Rather than use the PO facilities to set up the transfer, do it via your Barnsley account.
