Thank you everyone for your kind replies and suggestions.
Dangers, thanks for the warning, we have however decided to still buy it as having read many reviews and sat on the fence about it for nearly 6 months, its still the table we both agree on and is within budget. We'll have to chance the possibility of it not coming up to scratch in a year. But thanks for the warning as its something to keep an eye on.
In the end i went with this, i can't remember who suggested it, or whether i saw it myself online before i went out this afternoon, but i came home with it and OH loves it too. He said to me as always you choose i don't mind!
So in the end its this

It looks really nice with the flooring underneath and i think i will get the protective underneath layer, now the search is finding the best quality over price!
Suggestions please you lovely people!
I don't live near any big shops, my small market town struggles with anything i consider necessary. So its usually a half hr ride in any direction to a decent choice of industrial estates or shopping centres. Today i got lucky as i was visiting family who live in a half way decent shopping area.0 -
I keep walking past the table to the kitchen and smiling, it does look so good, what an improvement. Thanks again everyone for helping us decide.
Just need to order the new table now, if anyone can help with a homebase promo code that works, that would be fantastic.
Thank you.0 -
Very interesting thread. I am glad I'm not the only one who uses plastic tablecloths - I couldn't be bothered with all that laundry with linen ones! Worth mentioning if you get pasta sauce or biro on them put a bit of bleach on a pastry brush and leave to dry. This has worked magic on my cloths!0

Matty doesn't it bleach the pattern off the cloth too and leave discolouration? Just wondering....0

Bleach usually just lifts the stain - the colours in the cloth have always been ok for me.
Another wee thing - if you have small kids they can be liable to pulling cloth of table - which can be dangerous if hot dinners/drinks etc. What I do if fold the corners into a neat pleat/boxed corner so smooth around the corner of table and staple it together .... still looks good and the corners dont stick out which can happen when oil cloth new as stiff material.0 -
Well bailey - mine is a red polka dot one - just bleached it again this morning, absolutely fine. Mine was from dunelm mill.0

Spotty for me! The others not keen on personally..
We bought ours by the metre at a cheapy homestores place, is beige-ish with large cream squares and little flowers and fits in well with our decor.I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D
