Talk Talk - waste of space

Hello

I can see other people have similar views on here but just had to have rant myself. Have been having probs for at least 6 months. Internet really slow and keeps losing signal - worse in evening. I have phoned them and call centres in India and South Africa and can't understand a flipping word they say. Have emailed and get list of instructions like - is computer switched on, are you conscious (no, I am b****y catatonic from dealing with TalkTalk), etc. I even wrote a letter of complaint and just got a couple of lines back telling me to ring 0870 - customer services. What sort of complaints process doesn't allow you to make the complaint?

I am so frustrated. I sent them eamil this week asking for ombudsman address and no reply. Arrrggghhhhh! I can't bear it. Not under contract anymore - any recommendations for a good phone/internet service?

cheers

https://www.samknows.co, then exchange search, look for your available LLU providers.
Broadband is exchange specific, so not possible to give advice without knowing the exchange.

Hi manic, its often better to do your own checks before resorting the IT crowds unhelpline.

You say your broadband is slow and drops out mostly in the evening.
You don't say whether you are using a wired or wireless connection to your computer.

Changing ISPs will not improve your connection if there is a problem with the line, or your wiring.

Have Talk Talk got you to take your router statistics from your telephone master test socket?

If you want to try you can find info here http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php

If you post your findings it may give clue to whats going on.

  • Hi, it's wireless.

No one has asked me for router statistics, whatever they are! They have sent generic emails and I have checked speed which seems ok. My hubby wonders if it could be the router that is at fault.

I just want it fixed and some communication from them.

I am so sick of it. I have wasted 40 minutes of my life this morning turning it on and getting it to work. Crashiing again and going slow to the point i could go and make a cuppa, come back and page would still be loading.

    thanks

OK Router statistics provide information on the state of the connection between you and the exchange.
These include the speed of the connection, the attenuation (resistance) of the line, and the noise levels.
If you go to the link I gave you you should be able to work out how to obtain yours.

If its just the wireless that is dropping out and not the connection(i.e. Does the internet light on the router change colour during drop outs?) then it may be due to the wireless channel you are using, proximity of other wireless devices like cordless phone or wireless AV base stations.
Or next door may be on the same channel!! We can check for that later.

    Another tip about TalkTalk help.
Penrhyn is giving you good advice and a lot better that TalkTalk can give, but my tip is: If your router isn't one that TalkTalk support even if you did get through to them they won't advise you on it, I had this when I was with them, I told them my router was a such and such and he told me to contact the makers of the router as they didn't support that model.

    Stick with Penrhyn.

    Hi

will give those checks a go. The router is the one Talktalk sent us so they can't say they don't support it. We have cordless phone next to the router but it has to be there as plugs in there. It used to be fine (though has always dropped out but speed used to be better). A sales guy came to door trying to sell TT. We said we weren't happy and told him reasons. He said lot of people round here had problems. Apparently new server went in 6 months ago and problems ever since - which is about length of time we have been having probs. Coincidence or what? Also, on TTs website says no more TT customers being taken for this area as exchange is full. Any bearing?

Never had this trouble with BT.

thanks for those websites. will do that.
  • While you are looking around you might want to check your phone bill as well. Just found out that talk talk charge 11p just to connect you to another land line + the call cost. = 18p for 1 min. Check the small print Got thru to customer retention and got 3 months free line rental + 100 free mins per month to mobiles + £2 off the cost per month of going onto anytime free calls. Just kept saying I want more or Im off. This has cut my bill by more than half. BT internet support is as bad as talk talk and they charge 50p per min

Sounds like you have wireless, browser or PC issues, none of which are anything to do with TT-TT broadband will not 'crash' your PC. And nothing to do with LLU capacity on the exchange.
Do the basic tests and report back-most importantly is to connect via ethernet to the test socket, which TT support should have taken you through at the outset.

Cordless phone can be a problem due to noise transference/interference i would try removing it and its base station and see what happens as well as the other advice given .

    Hi Guys

I have my router statistics available. What ones would you like? I am hoping someone can make sense of these stats!

    Many thanks
