    I'd use the month you have left in paid employment to actively find another job using every available opportunity. Then your question will be a mute point.
    Why give up working to live off benefits.... It is not as cushy as people think, and don't get me started on what people on here think of us scroungers.
    And How exactly do we know that the OP intends to do this?. Are you reading the same thread as the rest of us?.

    They may be just desperately unhappy in their present job and be aiming to have something else lined up before the end of their notice period. The question on JSA may be a worst case scenario, in case this plan doesn't come together.

    Usually, the prefered way is to have a job lined up before you quit your existing one, but we haven't been fully told the reasons behind the OP quitting. But either way, I suspect that the OP will not be entitled to JSA for at least 26 weeks, based on the (limited) information given, so it won't be a problem or cause sleep loss to anybody with a genuine JSA claim.

    You need to claim as although chances are you won't actually receive any money, your sanction period (for leaving work) will run from your date of claim. Hardship is only likely to be paid if you are in a vulnerable position i.e have a family to provide for, or home to keep, if for instance you live with family (parents) you are unlikely to be paid anything.

    As suggested by another poster of telling the jcp that work asked you to leave, i would not advise this as they will check.

    Depends if you tell the jobcentre that you left out of choice, or if you just tell them that ''your work asked you to leave''.


    This won't help because the jobcentre will write to the previous employer and ask why the were asked to leave.

    Thanks for all the replies. Sorry I did not give any more information but I was in a hurry this morning as I had to go to work.

    I am going to look for another job and I hopefully will have one before 26 weeks are up. If however I do not find one by then I will claim JSA. I have worked continuously for 40 years and do not see why I should not claim if I am entitled to. However I am sure in 26 weeks I can find something - I am sure it used to be 6 weeks before you could claim but I suppose it's being made harder and hard.

    I did not originally intend to give my notice in yesterday. I was hoping to find another job first but ended up having a row with my manager and decided not to wait. Basically I have worked weekends (as well as 3 week days) for over 3 years and am simply sick and tired of it. My husband works Monday to Friday and then I work weekends. He works long hours, sometimes not getting home until 9/9.30pm so we hardly see each other and have no real life together. We rarely go out together. I am the only one at work who has to work every weekend and I have said I am willing to work alternate weekends but was told no. The final straw yesterday was when I asked for 2 weeks holiday next year to be told no because on 1 of the Saturdays I want off another person is off!!! I just decided enough was enough and if I gave my notice in at least I would not have to work Boxing Day, the Bank Holiday Monday, the Bank Holiday Tuesday, New Years Day, the Sunday after New Year and the Bank Holiday Monday, all days that my husband will be off.

    My life and my marriage are more important than any job and I feel over 3 years as the only member of staff having to work every weekend is a joke.

  • Don't wait 26 weeks before you claim as you will wait a further 26 weeks, claim as soon as you finish work.

    Sounds like you have been the subject of a fair amount of nastiness there, for what it's worth i don't blame you,

    This is untrue. Days between the employment ending and entitlement to JSA beginning are a self imposed sanction. So waiting the maximum sanction length before claiming will guarantee no sanction from claim start.

    OP - the reasons you have given will not amount to just cause but a maximum sanction would be extremely harsh. Make the claim as soon as you are unemployed-
